We are Channel M; a Texas based indie comic book publisher and we have a serious problem. Well actually its everyone’s problem…and that problem goes by the name of “Princess Lucinda Nightbane.” You see about two years ago Princess Lucinda, a very... lets call her “precocious” young princess came to our company and demanded we make a series of graphic novels based on her life. Being from Texas, we don’t normally do well with “demands”; especially when they come from a twelve year old girl that is dressed like the Princess of Darkness.
But as we found out (the hard way) it seemed, Lucinda is not only well spoken and demanding, but truly does have honest to goodness real magical powers. She turned my Editor into a toad, my Colorist into a ball of lint and our poor Assistant into a flea to prove her point. Within a few minutes of the above, contracts were signed and we were well on our way to publishing her tales of adventure, fantasy, horror and loss. We even hired a fancy French artist to draw the comics.
Remember all those Walt Disney Princesses… They were always the “good girls” being abused by the bad guy (usually an Evil Queen or Witch)? Lucinda’s story is the exact opposite of that; she’s the Anti-Disney Princess. Her folks were the evil rulers of a trans-dimensional empire that they ruled with an iron fist; but as stories like that tend to end, the forces good… usually show up and kill the evil mother and father.
So far we have an evil Princess (and her much less evil older sister) left as orphans by the good guys….who somehow ends up on earth; I could tell you more but that would be spoiling the fun.
The good news and bad news
Issue zero was a hit and has become the number one comic on drivethrucomics.com for four weeks. It was bright, beautiful and colorful! Issue one did well too despite being in black and white; it was the start of the true tale of Princess Lucinda and actually had a few great reviews just as Issue Zero. You can check some of them out here:
Heck, even “Aint-it Cool News” said it was a great comic. Review
But all good things come to an end, and we lost our fancy French artist. He just went poof (Could be Lucinda didn’t like his attitude). Thankfully we have found a new artist by the name of Ewelina Mroczkowska, and we’re redoing the project from scratch, this time right; it will be in color and in the form of two sixty-plus page graphic novels.
We really need your help with this project before the Evil Princess decides that I would make a perfect “bookend” for her novel collection, and she decides that our staff might look better as mice or goats…or goat-mice. Once she is done with us, you and your loved ones could be next!
The Master Plan
We’re going to start the project over from scratch with Ewelina; the plan is to make a big production out of it with world-wide distribution along with all the rest of the bells and whistles that accompany it.
Your help will allow us to do the following:
- Keep our artist happy by actually paying them.
- Allow us to create a larger print run of the graphic novels.
Out goals are very basic, but worry not, we have some neat ideas for stretch goals; including posters, a hard cover edition, cover variants, convention visits to promote the graphic novels, and even the possibility of a live-action short film.
We are looking at a release date of summer of 2013…yeah, now if that’s not ominous nothing is.
Save us, save yourself!
We really don’t want to send Lucinda on the warpath, and neither do you. So here’s the deal: by helping us well will help you in return.
