IMPORTANT NOTE: *Once we eventually shoot the feature and IF we garnered a theatrical release, this would be the first time ever that a Deaf , African American Actor would have played the actual lead role in a feature of that magnitude.*
WHAT: The Championship Rounds (http://www.thechampionshiprounds.com) is the story about a talented young, deaf African American boxer who raises his 6 month old son as a single father. The inspiration for this film comes from the Writer/Creator/Producer's (M.D. Walton's) experience of being exposed to a deaf friend in high school and the various stereotypes he witnessed; exposure to many boxing matches on VHS tapes as a kid and appreciation for the mental and physical elements of survival in and outside of the ring ;and the experience of working within homeless shelters.
WHY: This is a launching pad for a magnanimous vision. Much like hit films Napolean Dynamite, Sling Blade, Half Nelson and Pariah, The Championship Rounds is starting off as a short film. We've had successful fundraising efforts thus far online and off having raised approximately $14,000 and this marks our Final Online Campaign. If we reach our goal of $25,000 we will be able to stick to our timeline, green-light our project and stay on course. If not, than we are forced to wait. We want to beat the submission deadline for major festivals to help get this project out there and seen. It's too important.
WHO: We've been able to assemble a wonderful cast/crew thus far for the short film: Harold Perrineau Jr. (Lost, Oz, Romeo and Juliet), Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (HBO's The Wire, Gangs of New York, The Machinist), Linden Ashby (Wyatt Earp, Mortal Kombat, Hunger) , Michael Anthony Spady (The Hammer, Sympathy For Delicious), Emma Reaves (God and Vodka), Peter Jae (The Perfect Holiday, K-Town Cowboys), John Forest (Young Adult, Medium, House, Without a Trace)
Just added to the cast: Sufe Bradshaw (HBO's VEEP and JJ Abrams' Star Trek)
We have strong interest from a few other celebrities and will contact them again as well once funding is met.
Grammy Winning Composer Lorne Balfe (The Dark Knight, Inception, Megamind) and Sound Designer Jason W. Jennings (I Am Legend, Terminator Salvation, Flags of Our Fathers) are both attached to the project as well.
Writer/Creator/Producer: M.D. Walton, Award Winning Director Daniel Stine, and Producer Derrex Brady and Prod.Company Rushaway Pictures are at the helm.
FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)
What happens if the $25,000 Goal is not met by the end of the deadline?
If we don't meet or exceed our goal, unfortunately we don't get any of the funds and your cards will not be charged. However, we are confident that we'll meet our goal and be able to go into production due to the kind and generous hearts you all have!:)
What does my contribution go towards?
Your funds are covering all aspects of the production process from Pre-Production to Production to Post-Production. In other words, your funds will help pay our Cast and Crew Salaries, Locations and Permits, Equipment Rentals (RED One Camera, Lighting, Trucks), Editing, Composition,Travel Costs, Festival Submission Fees
When will I receive my Perks?
Once the matter at hand (the film) is complete, we will get most of the perks out to individuals who contribute. Some perks will be easier to send out before others. Either way, bear with us and we will definitely deliver! Keep in mind the shipping costs as well.
Why is this historical?
There has been a rarity of Deaf Talent represented in mainstream media (specifically film) over the last several years. Marlee Matlin was able to garner an Oscar for her performance in Children of A Lesser God in the late 1980's. Films like The Hammer with Russell Harvard have received recognition in the last year or two. I think it's important to be game-changers and this project is ultimately set out to crossover into the mainstream on a large scale.
Who do I contact if I have questions or want to discuss investment opportunities?
You may contact: firstname.lastname@example.org for any specific questions.
Can I become an Executive Producer?
Yes. There are Exec. Producer opportunities for substantial contributions. We are also a Fiscally Sponsored Project, so if you choose to donate a substantial amount by check, we can provide you with the Tax ID # to write off your contribution.
