The King has assembled the most prominent town guilds and issued them a challenge: rid the surrounding forest of monsters. Defeating monsters will earn your guild widespread fame and glory!
Players take turns controlling the adventurers moving about the village. The purpose of traveling to different locations is to either build up new or refresh your existing resources. For example, you will visit the Blacksmith for your swords, the Academy for your spell books, the Market for coins, and the Tavern for your hearts. Liquid courage perhaps? There are also 7 other locations in the game, of which you will use one per game. This adds variety to the playing experience as these special locations have a wide range of abilities.
Once you feel like you have enough resources you will venture into the Forest, which is one of the six locations. There you'll encounter a variety of monsters. These monsters will give you points to add to your glory and some of them provide immediate benefits when they are defeated. The first player to gain 20 glory triggers the end game and once all players have had an equal number of turns, the guild leader with the highest glory total is declared the victor!
The game is designed by Henry Audubon (Space Park & PARKS) and illustrated by Tristam Rossin (3 Laws of Robotics & Rune).
For those adventurers who want a more premium component gaming experience, our Deluxe edition is just the right thing for your guild. The Deluxe edition comes with everything included in the core game except the card board versions of the Hearts, Spellbooks, and Swords will be replaced with wooden versions. You'll feel all kinds of metal clanking fancy when you're holding 30 coin upgrades too. These are being made to order for the campaign, so there will only be a limited quantity available after the KS campaign ends! Thanks to the unlocked Side Quest, the Deluxe Edition will have its own unique box design (not pictured yet).
ALL BACKERS will receive a King's Favor metal starting player coin during fulfillment. The coin will not be in the retail edition of the game and can serve as an alternate to the starting player crown meeple. This is a special way to commemorate everyone coming together to make this game a reality.
Closer Look at the Three Different Card Types
Arrange the five starting locations in a circle, adding one from the special location options. Prepare the monsters deck according to player count by stacking Chapter 1 cards on top of the Chapter 2 cards, then reveal three monsters in the forest. Place the three adventurers onto their starting locations with the King's Guard nearby. Each player takes a Guild Leader card and starting resources. Determine the first player, giving that person the King's Crown. You're ready to begin!
Movement and Actions:
On your turn, choose one of the three adventurers. You may perform the action at their current location. Next, move the adventurer to another vacant location - adjacent cards have no cost, but skipping locations cost one gold per card. You may perform the action at the new location. Finally, place the King's Guard meeple on the location from where your movement began.
Forest and Fighting Monsters:
If you activate the Forest location, you may choose to fight any number of face up cards in the Forest. Exhaust the number of hearts, spell books, and/or swords as required by the card by flipping them from their active color side to their inactive gray side. You may also need to spend gold coins which then get returned to the supply. Collect the monsters as you defeat them and immediately perform the reward listed on the card (if applicable).
Ending the Game:
When a player reaches 20 fame points, the end game is triggered. Play will continue until the player to the right of the starting player has taken their turn so that all players will receive an equal number of turns. Highest fame point total will win.
When only one Guild answers the King’s call...
There are no other Guilds to compete with so there’s no point fighting for fame. You’re in town defense mode now and you need to do everything you can to prevent the forest from being overrun with monsters!
With only one Guild, the Forest is no longer automatically refilled; instead one monster card is added to the Forest at the start of each turn. If there are ever 4 or more monsters in the Forest, then it is overrun and the Guild fails. The guild is victorious if they are able to slay 2 of the mightiest beasts in the Forest (Dragon, Giant, Genie).
Take your turn, as usual, by moving an Adventurer and taking the actions at both the starting and ending locations, followed by moving the King's Guard to block the starting location for next turn. Some of the locations and monster abilities will be modified for solo play, so there could be a few additional cards added to the game specifically to accommodate solo. Those are still in development, which is why you do not see them listed on the components list.

We are subsidizing some of the shipping cost to get the game in your mailbox with as little out of pocket expense to you as possible. The following will be collected after the Kickstarter campaign within our pledge manager, CrowdOx:
- For US shipments, there will be no charge for the regular pledge level and $5 for the deluxe.
- For Canada and EU shipments, the regular game will be $5 and the deluxe $10.
- The rest of the world will be $10 on the regular tier and $15 for the deluxe.
The plan is to ship all of the games from fulfillment centers in the US, Canada, and the EU. This should help backers in those countries avoid VAT. Please keep in mind every country is different. If this could be a concern for your situation, investigate the policies for your country.
Risks and challenges
This will be our sixth product to manufacture and fulfill to backers. We have run four successful campaigns here on KS and one on Indiegogo.
We have already established contractual relationships with our manufacturers, fulfillment partner, and pledge manager. This will help us to hit the ground running immediately after the campaign ends.
