Thanks to your support we were able to build a 3 meters long sailing Protei in Rotterdam NL this summer 2011. Since we have been working hard making more prototypes to deliver you a machine that is highly performing, tested and well documented. We are sorry to make you wait to deliver you the reward but we do not want to give you the documentation of a machine that would not be performing well. This summer 2012, 2 of us will be working intensively to transition from prototype stage to product and we really hope to deliver your 1m RC Protei, documentations and other rewards for Christmas 2012. We are doing our very best, thank you again for your support.
When we ran our kickstarter campaign was in the process, and since many people have joined the Protei team, some have left - mostly to get back to full time studying in top Universities. We would like to add to the team :
>> Dr Zenon Chaczko, ICT Programme Coordinator, School of Computing and Communication. Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. University of Technology, Sydney Australia.
The most up to date team list can be found on our website :
Yes, Open_Sailing has changed name and it is now called Open-H2O. As we are growing we are setting ourselves up as 2 separate entities : Open-H2O is to become a non-profit organisation to "Promote and Develop Open Technologies to Understand and Protect Water and the Oceans." While Protei is to be turned into a Green Tech Start-up, a B-corp.
This diagram explains it quite well I think : http://www.flickr.com/photos/worldworldworld/7027862399/
Open_Sailing website is very out od date and will soon be replaces by a brand new Open-H2O, we're working on it. It will be a great community website to
1. Co-develop technologies. A little bit like Instructables.com
2. License your work under "Open Hardware H2O", our flavour of Open Hardware license for water and maritime applications. As simple to use as creativecommons.org.
3. A real-time environmental data-sharing / mapping platform, inspired by former Pachube.com now https://cosm.com/?pachube_redirect=true
More soon! Stay tuned.
