Do you often lose a tape measure when you want to ‘measure the length’, you thinking of the layout of your new home, purchasing new furniture, or shipping goods? You are tired of taking memo of the length one by one, aren't you?
If you have such experiences, iTapemeasure , an innovative iPhone case with a tape measure, would be the best solution. It has a small 1.5m tape measure built-in, and linked with an exclusive application. So you can measure the length anytime anywhere, recording the results on its picture.
How to use iTapemeasure
Once you start iTapemeasure application, your iPhone becomes a simple and high-performance electric tape measure. Big font is easy to read. If you use ‘HOLD button’, you can measure things longer than 1.5m by plural times of measurement. You can add up the heights, widths and depths easily, so iTapemeasure is useful when you ship goods.
Because iPhone has a camera, after taking a picture, iTapemeasure can notes the lengths of each parts on the picture easily. Take a picture of the object first. Then measure the length of it with iTapemeasure.
The results of the measurement are shown on the picture, and a colorful bars are also on it in order you to see ‘which part did I measured?’ The colorful bars are movable with your finger. Of course, you can put plural results on a picture. The results are put automatically, so you will be released from difficulties of measurements with a usual tape measure and memo such as ‘the height is 20cm (you note), and how long is the width? 26? 28? Oh…’
As you can not only take a new picture but also use pictures saved in your iPhone, you can put the result of the measurement on the sketch picture you prepared in advance. After a measurement, it is possible you post your pictures on Twitter and Facebook. You can share the lengths of things around you with your friends very easily. For example, when you eat a big hamburger and get so surprised that you measured it and shared its picture, which is one of a way to enjoy iTapemeasure.
We have been particular about the design because we bring iPhone everyday. The body is tightly fit for both iPhone4 and iPhone4S, and its back is handy round form. The body is exquisitely machined from a single billet of aluminum, which is famous for the way Apple make the unibody MacBook. Its beautiful design matches iPhone very well. You can charge and connect it to PC without removing it from iTapemeasure.
When iTapemeasure is needed
o When you move into a new house, you can record the sizes of everywhere in your new house easily in advance.
o When you choose new furniture or home electrics, you measure the place it would be located, and you can measure with your iPhone at a furniture shop and a mass home electrics retailer as well.
o If you have a little child, you can record his/her heights on the picture. You can make the only one slide show of the track of your child’s growth.
o There are various ways of use. You can find your own way of use iTapemeasure which can measure length anytime anywhere.

The 1st prototype
The 1st prototype is very simple. We bought all circuit boards and a connector in Akihabara, Tokyo. The tape measure inside is also an ordinary one.
The 1st prototype PCB is simple. A sensor is on the green board, and a LED is on the another side board. When the tape measure with white and black stripes run through between them, the sensor calculate how long the tape measure move by capturing how many times the LED light is reached.
In order to put the PCB in side the body, we made a great effort. As a result, the PCB became so small.
The 2nd prototype
The 2nd prototype is made by a resinous 3D printer. We polished it with sandpaper, and sprayed it priming coat. The form is closer to the finished product.
We made the aluminum prototype by making a bland-new design. This is the closest prototype to the finished product now. Of course we are still trying to improve it.
The iTapemeasure Team
Takuma Iwasa(CEO): Project Manager
2003-2007 worked in Panasonic as Product planner.
He has many experiences of making products as a project manager so far.
Yujiro Kaida: Product Designer
He designed mainly the exterior cabinet. The hand-fit round form and coolest design are his work.
Masaki Suzuki: Electric Designer
He is in charge of the mechanical design. The small PCB and sensor design is the result of his effort.
Yuiseki: iPhone app programmer
