This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, April 10 2019 10:47 PM UTC +00:00.
Cuttlefish Colors is a hobby acrylic paint line that we here at the studio have developed. These paints work and blend very well with other major brands of hobby paint on the market right now, but at a much cheaper price tag.
Why use Cuttlefish colors
For years we used just about every other major brand of hobby paint out there, always looking for that perfect color, the smoothest paint and the most cost effective.
Lets face it, if you’re into tabletop wargaming you know how expensive this hobby can be. We were so tired of spending 5-6 dollars a bottle on paint, only to have them dry out with their flip top lids, the dropper styles were great but so difficult for us to get locally, and the consistency of the color varied greatly.
So, ten years ago we began doing research on the properties of hobby paint, how it’s made and where we can get the materials to do this. After hundreds of failed attempts to “make” our own paint and thousands of dollars spent on failed formulas we finally found the one that worked the best.
This formula gives you a smooth thin coat with good coverage and blends fantastically with other colors in the line, AS WELL AS other hobby paints on the market. These paints have a matt finish and are bottled in 15 ml bottles with an agitator ball to aid in the mixing process. All washes are bottled in 30ml bottles and have the same agitator ball. There are a total of 9 metallic colors and 63 matt finish colors with 10 washes in the full set at this time. (12 more matt finish colors if we hit $18000 stretch goal)
Almost 10 years ago we began to experiment with different pigments and binders to find the perfect formula. This formula we have used for the past 2 years with great success. Each time measuring the consistency and coloration against the previous batch to ensure quality control.
After this campaign we plan on continuing production of Cuttlefish Colors and will launch a website that will allow purchases, as well as other products we have plans for in the future. This kickstarter is to help us get a boost with our product line - not just paints! In the future we are planning a series of weathering pigments, technical and specialty paints as well as basing materials, scenics, laser cut tokens, foam miniature trays and so much more. Everyone starts somewhere, and we know we are a small fish in a very large pond.
This is our first leap into the world of crowd funding, we know we are going to make mistakes - we've made a few already! We learn from these mistakes, no one is perfect the first time for anything. Shipping has been a big contentious point so far. We were unsure how shipping was handled at first with Kickstarter and were under the impression that we needed to put a number. We now know we didn't...BUT, the number shown for shipping is the MAXIMUM you would pay, we are going to get these out to everyone the quickest and cheapest way possible. Also - If you are a member of the US armed forces and have either an APO or FPO I'm personally going to pay for your shipping! We understand that some sets show shipping to be high for our neighbors up in Canada and we apologize for not researching this more up front. You will only pay what the actual cost of shipping is, period. If it costs more than the stated amount we are going to cover the rest. If it costs less (which is a high probability) then we will refund the difference to you.
We are very excited to bring our line of hobby paints to everyone, and can't begin to thank you enough for checking us out and hopefully, just hopefully pledging!
Thanks from the bottom of our hearts,
Below we have added pictures of the paints for each set. Remember, the sets are progressive so some paints will appear in multiple photos. All metallic were painted over a matt black primer while the remaining colors were painted over a white matt primer.
For those that are pledging for the Serious Collector the 10 un-named paints are below. Please remember that if you have pledged at this level we will randomly assign one of these colors to you for naming!
All stretch goals can be added to any pledge level unless stated otherwise. These would not be possible without your support!
- $12000 - 10 additional paints to add to the Cuttlefish Colors line. These paints will automatically be included for free if you have pledged for the Early Bird, Full Monty, or Serious Collector. If you would like to add these on to any other level of pledge please add $20 to your pledge amount.
- $15000 - Brushes! if we hit this amount we will include 2 brushes for every pledge from the starter set and up. These are synthetic brushes, size 0 round.
- $18000 - 12 additional colors to the paint range. Again, like the first stretch goal these 12 will be added free to all full sets of paint i.e. Full Monty, Early Bird and Serious Collector.
Post campaign pledge manager.
We will have a pledge manager after the campaign ends that will allow you to add other sets to your pledge as well as any additional add-ons such as the t-shirt and or washes / stretch goals.
Speaking of T-shirts...here is the logo!
These will be printed on black t-shirts and you will be able to select your size in the pledge manager after our campaign ends.
Risks and challenges
Challenges? At first we didn't think we would face any - but we realize we have so much to learn. We have secure machinery to help with production (mixing and bottling paint) as well as packaging for the different sets. The production machinery has already been ordered and we expect delivery the 2nd week of April. Packaging and Labels will be ordered as soon as a final count of product is given after the campaign ends. These all should take between 7-14 days to arrive. While this is happening we will begin production of the paints immediately. We have secured the pigment and additives to the paint and those will also be ordered to add to the stock we currently have on hand once the campaign has ended.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
