On Pointe: The Ballet Board Game
Experience life as a ballet dancer, from the Barre to a Star. Earn your pointe shoes and tutu; collect gems, treasures and the tiara.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Tue, January 8 2019 7:30 PM UTC +00:00.
As a life-long ballet dancer and someone who enjoys board games, I realized that there were no serious games in the ballet theme, so I created one. It needed to be a game that's easy to learn, but with a good amount of depth and challenge and of course true to the theme.
From the Barre to a Star! - This is On Pointe, the Ballet Board Game. Travel the life of a dancer - from dance class, to joining a dance company, to rehearsals before a debut, then to partner for a pas de deux before finally claiming top spot as Prima Ballerina.
This is a game for 2-4 dancers, ages 8+ and is a light-strategy game.
To advance, you must dance, so jeté, glissade and assemblé your way through the game. Choose your dancer and begin at the barre. Dance your way past the other rehearsal dancers and work your way through the corps de ballet on stage.
Reach special ballet milestones like getting your first pair or pointe shoes, and fitted for a tutu. Use your fancy footwork and play movement cards to work your way across the board.
Collect points along the way, from gems and treasures to decorate your tutu.
First dance to get the tiara and take a curtsy and the stage first place finish but points also count for gems and treasures collected, so choose your strategy carefully - there is more than one way to win!
Ballet is difficult and obstacles must be overcome - stage fright, and injury and motives of other dancers. Plus there are some evil characters to watch out for - like the magician and of course, the Black Swan.
Special Power-Up tokens in each ballet position can be played one at your turn, to boost your movement and to strategically place your dancer.
The name of this game - On Pointe combines the true French term in ballet "En Pointe' with the popular term "On Point" which means to be flawless and perfect.
On Pointe is a light-strategy game, easy enough to learn but grows as your dance skills develop to become more and more challenging. Great for two players but even more fun with three or four.
Start at the barre, and get your foundation. Land on the pointe shoe fitting area and get your first pair...plus a gem to decorate your tutu.
Then it's off to rehearsal. Then hit wardrobe for your tutu and another gem for you to collect. Don't forget to bring a dancer with you...you'll need a partner soon.
Next you're on stage! Work your way through the corps de ballet. It's your last chance to get a partner for your pas de deux.
Only one dance gets the tiara, so use your strategy to be first to become Prima.
You did it! Now you can take your final curtsy and bow and receive your bouquet - Bravo! Count up your points, and see which dancer wins.
Photo-realistic design and a big emphasis to show true ballets steps and imagery, this game is ideal for anyone who loves the beauty of ballet. Own it! - back this kickstarter project to receive your very own copy of the On Pointe game.
Every ballet dancer knows the importance of limbering up before class or a performance, so we’ve included these five S-T-R-E-T-C-H Goals -
There are a variety of levels of pledges for On Pointe -
How can I buy a copy of this game?
We are crowdfunding to raise money to print this game. That means each person pledges to buy a copy (or two!) to back and support the campaign. This raises money as a group. If enough money is raised and we reach our funding goal, then we’re able to print and ship the game to you as a reward.
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a website that helps artists, designers and other creators find the resources and support they need to make their ideas a reality. Tens of thousands of creative projects – big and small – have come to life with the support of the Kickstarter community.
When will I get my game?
The fundraising campaign for On Pointe will last 31 days. If the campaign is successful and reaches the funding goal, then the collected dollars from pre-orders and supports will fund the printing and shipping of this game. Manufacturing and final artwork is completed within a timeline of 2 months and then the game is printed in China and shipped to backers across the globe. We expect to receive the game sometime in May, 2019.
What if you don’t fund the game? What happens to my pledge?
If we do not reach the full funding goal for the Kickstarter campaign, then Kickstarter will simply not charge your credit card and you pay nothing at all.

On Pointe will be available to backers on this Kickstarter site who provide us with an address in Canada, the United States, the European Union (EU friendly), Australia and New Zealand.
Manufacturers have given us timelines that would have the game printed, boxed and shrink-wrapped in August, 2019.
Your reward(s) will be shipped to the address that you provide us, through a professional global end-consumer fulfillment and shipping agency that includes the customs fees for Europe. We will not be attempting this ourselves, but have budgeted for professional packing and delivery to you by a reputable company.

Risks and challenges
The key risks associated with this project relate to manufacturing, shipping and fulfillment.
For that reason, we have contacted only reputable, experienced board game printers in obtaining accurate manufacturing quotes and will use established shippers and fulfillment agencies capable of handling multiple board game shipping and fulfillment to all destinations that we support in this Kickstarter campaign.
In addition to being board game designers, we are experienced business professionals and fully prepared for anything to go wrong, but are confident that we can step in quickly to find solutions in delivering what we promise to our backers, in that eventuality.
We are passionately driven to bring this board game to the world and are mature and experienced to know that our proper execution of the plan starts for real, once fully funded.
