In 'Duels of Cartisora', you are one of six warriors from antiquity, fighting a one-on-one battle against another experienced combatant.
Each of your skills and special abilities are different, yet the asymmetrical match-up is completely balanced and any fighter can win; it’s about you and your ability to discover how to apply the right tactics to the situation by reading your opponent’s moves and knowing their special abilities.
Some fighters are bold and powerful, others are more defensive and sneaky. Each of the six warriors have their own personality; you need to find out which one fits you best.
This heavily themed card game relies on hand management, and while the concept of the contest is like a rock-paper-scissors simultaneous action, it's vastly more sophisticated.
Each game is quick to play, but it will take you hundreds of games to intuitively master just one character.
There is no luck in this game, just pure skillful application of your abilities.
With six very different warriors in the box, there are a total of 15 different match-ups possible; meaning there are 15 different games to play or battles to fight.
Duels of Cartisora combines science, in the form of diverse character capabilities that are mathematically balanced to perfection, with art that introduces leading-edge creative through digital painting applying layers of abstract lines and textures to the anachronistic warriors.

Duels of Cartisora becomes a real shotgun game once the players know how the characters match up. In this video you get some of the feel for the rapid blows and counter-strikes of each warrior, as they 'fight' to dominate each other.

'Duels of Cartisora' is a riveting battle of strategy and wit. Even after players learn the special card effects of each character, strategies can continue to evolve thanks to the well-thought-out and balanced nature of the game; there is no 'best' playable character.
Participants will be quick to offer 'best of out 5?', 'best out of 7?' as they conceive new strategies to best their opponents.
The vast number of approaches to attack are what lends this game high replay value and hours of fun for all who play!
Furthermore, this game can be easily picked up by a beginner and the strategy of a player will be influenced by the strategy of their opponent so experienced and fresh players can be well suited to play evenly matched games!

Duels of Cartisora is designed and developed by Jeremy Moshe. Jeremy has been playing and designing games his whole life. As a child he would create schoolyard games for his friends, develop lego battle games with his brother and invent new variants of old board games. When he got older he was an active custom map designer in Warcraft 2, Starcraft and Warcraft 3.
When the indie flash game movement started, Jeremy became an active member with several small published titles under his belt and countless unfinished prototypes.
Jeremy now works as an Instructional Designer / Game Designer for a company designing and developing Math-based games and software. In his free time, Jeremy likes to play games, study game design and channel all his excess creativity into designing board and card games.
Max Gorgol is the artist who lent us his talent for all the artwork of this game. His unique style is key to making Duels of Cartisora stand out among similarly themed games. Each image is richly colored and digitally painted, highly textural and modern. The two-dimensional forms are layered with three-dimensional texture, so that the abstract lines and patterns yield stunning depth. His style is 'painterly', yet futuristic. We wanted more than a mainstream cartoon-style for this game and Max delivered with every stroke of the digital pen.
One of the biggest champions of independent game designers and publishers is the Indie Game Alliance and we owe a huge dept of gratitude for their dedication, support, and advice on this Project.
