I'm back from my trip and finally have all the stretch goals put together. But first, I want to give a shout out to Richard Boom at BrokenFrontier for featuring the Sparkbook on their website. Thanks a bunch!
OK, here's the full list of stretch goals:
About the hardcover upgrades: I'm working with a printer who specializes in printing sketchbooks. That's great because it means we get real sketchbook paper (even if it is smoothed out as it goes through the printing press), but one of the down sides is that they don't offer the same variety of hardcover choices I could get from other printers. They sent me samples of two options, a tan chip board and a black mat board. Here's photos I took of the samples they sent me:
On the tan chip board you'll notice there's embossing and silver foil. Unfortunately that is NOT included in the stretch goal price. It's just too expensive, but if enough of you requested it I'd certainly consider adding a stretch goal option for it. Otherwise, there will just be regular printing on the cover.
The black mat board cover, on the other hand, would require foil printing since it's black, and normal colors don't show up well on black. That foil is built into the price, but again the embossing is just too expensive. Although, like I said, if enough of you request it I can work it in as an option.
One more thing: In these samples the printer cut the covers to be flush with the pages. I'm requesting that for our book they be trimmed to be just slightly larger than the pages, extending past the paper about 1/8" on the top, bottom, and outside edge. It's a small difference but I think it will make the book look classier.
Let me know what you think. I'm very open to any feedback you want to send my way.
We are currently at 96% with 8 days to go, so we should be breaking the tape very soon. I hope I don't sound like a broken record but I really need as much help from each of you as I can get to rev up toward these stretch goals. In addition to spreading the word, you might want to consider boosting your pledge and purchasing some of the awesome add-on's (such as the webinar, sketch club membership, or a two-pack to give one copy to a friend). Thanks again to all of you for your support and enthusiasm. You rock!
