Warp 11 is excited to announce that we are almost ready to enter the studio and start recording our EIGHTH full-length album, "Enterprise B-Sides"! This album is very special in that it has been nearly twenty years in the making, as it only contains songs that were created during the writing sessions for every other album Warp 11 has ever done.

"Enterprise B-Sides" will have fourteen fun and, as always, 100% original songs (at minimum - see the Stretch Goals section below!) that we've performed live in the past but, for one reason or another, never got recorded. Hence, they truly are our "B-Sides"! Join us as we go WAY back in time to our punk roots and resurrect "Uhura" and "Federation Ship Captain"! Uncontrollably rip off all of your clothes as Kiki performs "Naked Time"! Swoon as Karl sings "Yar"! Wonder what the hell Brian was smoking when he wrote "All Your Bones Are Belong To Us"!

"But why Kickstarter?", you ask. "Why should I give this brilliant band, that I have enjoyed for almost two decades and will force my loved ones to play at my funeral as my ashes are launched into space, any money up front for their next album?", you would also certainly ask. The answer is unfortunate, but simple - life happens. In a space nutshell, Warp 11 makes most of our money from doing shows, and we simply haven't had the time to do more than a handful in the almost four years since we released our last album, "Rock Out With Your Spock Out". Despite the fact that we are just a few weeks away from being ready to go into the studio and lay down "Enterprise B-Sides", we just don't have enough latinum to make this album at the same high quality level that our fans expect.

And so, as many other independent bands are doing, and in the interest of getting this album done as quickly as possible, we’ve decided to give this Kickstarter thing a try.

Live Long and Prosper...and ROCK!!

Warp 11? Who the frak are they??

Warp 11 was formed in 1999 and is an independent rock band from Sacramento, California, that performs original songs with lyrics entirely about or inspired by Star Trek. Warp 11 music covers a wide range of styles including alternative, classic rock, punk, country and blues. Our lyrics are humorous and sometimes profane (you've been warned!). We were featured in the Paramount Pictures documentary "Trekkies 2", and our song "Everything I Do, I Do With William Shatner" was included in the television broadcast of the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner.

Warp 11's personnel are (left to right):

  • Chief Engineer Brian Moore (guitar, vocals)
  • Captain Karl Miller (bass, vocals)
  • Chief Science Officer Kiki Stockhammer (keyboards, vocals)
  • Commander (Number One) John Merlino (drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals)

We've done seven full-length studio albums, including our most recent, "Rock Out With Your Spock Out". Some quotes from our reviewers:

-- "It's not easy taking something as beloved as "Star Trek" and turning it into decent rock'n'roll, but this band has a unique talent for doing just that."

-- (About our concept album, "Borgasm"): "It tells a complete story of a Borg invasion, from start to finish, in surprising detail, with explosive action, kinky sex and characters who are jaw-droppingly complex."

-- (About "Rock Out With Your Spock Out"): "It's a back to basics, raw, attitude-filled album that still manages to break new ground.  Long-time fans should get the gist, and new listeners will want more. I think it's a perfect way to follow up Borgasm."

About this Campaign

All of the pledge levels are hopefully self-explanatory, with the likely exception of the "private party" levels. If the intent of the person making the pledge is to have us play at a local club that regularly has live music, it's not terribly hard for a motivated band and their fans to get a club to allow us to play on a night that's convenient for everybody. The only issue involved with this option is getting access to instruments, particularly drums, if the location is so far away from Sacramento that getting there by driving is not an option. This would be true for just about any location outside California, Oregon or Nevada.

Regarding the cost of the Starfleet President and Commander-in-Chief pledge levels, we have tried to reasonably estimate the maximum costs of travel, lodging, and, if necessary, equipment rental. But sometimes, the logistics just won't work out, no matter how much we try to bend the universe to our will. In these cases, Warp 11 will refund your entire pledge (minus the $100 for the physical items included with the Lieutenant pledge level) once it becomes obvious that, despite our best efforts, it just isn't going to work out.

Stretch Goals - FOUR OUT OF FIVE STRETCH GOALS UNLOCKED!

We have some very exciting stretch goals that we really hope our community of crewmembers can help us achieve. The first two will allow us to make "The Enterprise B-Sides" the longest and best album that it can be. The next two are for our many worldwide fans who have longed to hear us play live, and will provide the next best thing!

  • $6,000 (UNLOCKED!) - Two more songs will be included on "Enterprise B-Sides", for a total of sixteen!
  • $7,000 (UNLOCKED!) - Even two more songs will be included on "Enterprise B-Sides", for a total of eighteen!! More songs than any other Warp 11 album ever!
  • $8,000 (UNLOCKED!) - We will release a full hour of some of our favorite live bootleg recordings! These will be made available for free download to everybody who pledged to this campaign.
  • $9,000 (UNLOCKED!) - We will increase the amount of live bootleg recordings to two hours!
  • $13,000 (LOCKED) - TWENTY SONGS?!? CAN THEY DO THAT? IS THAT EVEN LEGAL? YES WE CAN AND YES IT IS (we hope). "Enterprise B-Sides" will have 20 songs!

Risks and challenges

All humility aside (as if we had any!)...we know how to do this. Since 1999 we've made seven albums, with a total of over 100 songs, all written and produced solely by Warp 11. So, yeah, we're good at this.

Also, because of the theme and spirit of this album, all of the songs are already written. No more writer's block. No more squabbling over chord changes, lyrics, or whatever stupid prog-rock rhythm Number One is trying to convince us is "perfect for this song...just trust me". From here on it's just playing the songs over and over until we're ready to lay down great performances for the album.

Additionally, all of the recording for all seven or our albums has been done at the same terrific studio (Pus Cavern - www.facebook.com/PusCavern) with the same amazing engineer (Joe Johnston). We simply won't record anywhere else, not only because we get terrific results but also because nobody else would put up with us. So the first "risk", if you could even call it that, is getting studio time at Pus Cavern as soon as we're ready to record. But since we've already given Joe a heads-up, so we don't anticipate any delays at all.

The other "risk", as mentioned above (but we want to stress it one more time) is for anybody who purchases one of the "private party" pledge levels ("Commander-in-Chief" or "Starfleet President"). Again, scheduling is the potential problem here. But if you're the kind of fan who would pay a big stack of latinum for a command performance, we're going to do everything in our power, including getting Elon Musk to fast-track researching how to time travel by warping around the sun, to make sure that we get you your show as soon as possible. If circumstances make this impossible, of course you will be fully refunded immediately upon request.
