Sky Blue Making will be part of Coventry Biennial of Contemporary Art's 2019 exhibitions programme. The programme focuses on and supports artists from Coventry and Warwickshire, ensuring the creation of opportunities for practitioners in the area and allowing them and their work to reach wider audiences.
As in 2017, our upcoming exhibitions, events and activities will take place in multiple venues across the city, in art galleries and museums as well as more unexpected locations. Funds raised through this kickstarter will ensure that artists with CV postcodes, artists who are based in and making work in Coventry and Warwickshire, are included in these exhibitions.
Sky Blue Making is named for the city, referencing its history as a place of making everything from ribbon and watches to engines and taxis, but also hinting at the ‘blue sky thinking’ which has enabled Coventry to seize its position as a culturally rich and active city. Funds raised through this kickstarter will firmly place visual artists at the centre of this exciting moment in Coventry.
Through Sky Blue Making and with the support of the kickstarter community we will commission new and ambitious artworks, providing artists with fair pay and access to materials, networks and technical support.
Risks and challenges
Coventry has many talented artists and we are meeting new practitioners on an almost weekly basis. Perhaps our largest challenge will be selecting the artists that could benefit from this timely support and inclusion in Coventry Biennial 2019. This will be resolved through our teams' continued engagement with the art community across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Coventry Biennial 2019 will take place from the 4 October 2019 - 24 November 2019. We have some funds in place to deliver this ambitious festival already, and our team are currently fundraising to support our work further. We are additionally fundraising through this kickstarter campaign to target our support and provide meaningful opportunities to local artists, ensuring that we are not just exhibiting the work of 'big names'.
Since our last biennial in 2017 we have undergone a substantial period of organizational development, ensuring that our newly expanded team and advisory board have the best skills, knowledge and experiences to deliver an exciting festival in 2019.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
