I am raising money to write, edit, promote, and distribute hard copies, digital copies, and an audio-book version of the book that I am currently writing titled “Lights, Coma, Action!” This book will tell the story of who I was, how I sustained a serious brain injury, and my successful recovery process (Lights, Coma, Action!). I have written about 60,000 words in my blog, www.CavinBounce.com, documenting the first year of my recovery and have been contacted by many people affected by TBI–as well as other injuries–who happened to come across my website. These people have thanked me immensely for my writing.
WHO AM I?
On May 8th 2011, I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and was diagnosed with a Diffuse Axonal Injury. Approximately 90% of people with this injury never regain consciousness. Those who do wake up will often remain significantly impaired or in a vegetative state.
A year after my brain injury, I began writing about where I was one year ago on the anniversaries of each important event as they happened. I felt compelled to write. This is the story of the year that followed this brain injury. As I got better, my friends began to call me "Mr. Bounce" after the old Roger Hargreaves children's book because I seemed to “bounce right back!” I did not bounce though… It is a haul, not a bounce. There is no undoing a brain injury. I work to help other survivors, their friends, and their families.
WANT TO HELP?Pleases consider donating, but just as importantly, what is also needed is for people to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! I'm not trying to be pushy, beg, or to lay on a guilt trip. I am just trying to get the help that I need in order to accomplish the goal.

TAKE ME TO A DOCTOR
Been in and out of every doorway
Yeah, back and forth
Well I’ve been trying to do it your way
Baby, that don’t work
I’ve been chasing this dragon around this town
And if I find myself falling, yeah, falling down…
Someone take me to a doctor
I’ve been halfway between every halfway house
Well I’m all out of my downers, yeah I’m down and out
I’m surrounded by broken bottles. These bottles leave me broke
I press my foot against the throttle, rev it up and then I choke
And if I choke…
Someone take me to a doctor, yeah, take me to a nurse
Someone take me to a doctor, yeah, take me to a church
Someone take me to a doctor, just take away this curse
Someone take me to a doctor, someone take me to the hearse
It is very chilling that I wrote this song about one year before my brain injury. The lyrics seem to have foreshadowed, in the most literal sense, the events that took place after I wrote them.

Risks and challenges
Earlier this year, at the 20th Annual Writers’ League of Texas Agents and Editors Conference, I pitched this book to a number of agents. Any of them who worked within my genre (memoir) asked me to send them the first three chapters upon completion. Agents only ask for this if they are truly interested. Many have commented on my blog telling me that I write very well, and several published authors have echoed this sentiment and told me that they believe in my writing.
In the event that I am unable to find a publisher for this story, I have a backup plan. That plan is to hire the professionals needed to edit, promote, distribute, and to self publish. In this day and age, a publisher is not needed to get a book published, but going that route would require a lot more work from me that I would much rather devote towards helping others.
Some TBI survivors, including myself, have trouble reading text; therefore, I am determined to create an audiobook version to make my writing more accessible. The money that I raise will be used to complete the manuscript and to promote this project's publication.
