I've been working on HOMELAND for a few years, and now it's time to bring it public in a fully-produced evening, to take place in February in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn. Art is expensive - the budget for this show (3 performances) is just over $20,000.
To get things started, I did a Kickstarter campaign in October to raise money to cover the cost of the deposit for the performance space. That campaign was wildly successful, so I figured I'd launch another. But then, just as I was filming the video, the dancers took over, demanding that they be paid for their rehearsal time!
Of course I've had it in the budget to pay the dancers the whole time - 20% of the budget is dancer pay. But when they realized just how difficult the fundraising climate is, they decided to take matters into their own hands. They hijacked my fundraising video and now they are holding me hostage. I'm trapped in the closet (apologies to R. Kelly) and I don't know when I'll get out. Looks like I won't get my freedom until we raise $3300 to pay the dancers' fees!
Please help me get out of this closet and back to rehearsal. They're treating me pretty well so far, but who knows what they'll do as they get more desperate...
