Welcome to Waters Edge, the game with a catch!
This brand new card game invites you to spend a week in Waters Edge, a tiny town tucked away on the edge of the seas. Cast your nets and keep the ice house stocked, ready to feed the town folk as the buildings grow... but watch out for storms, whales and cheeky seagulls!
Game play cycles through day and night presenting different challenges along the way - will you focus on completing your lighthouse to unlock night fishing or work on increasing the size of your town and catching the most fish?
With beautifully illustrated cards by Scottish artist, Catherine Redgate, the coast is brought to life in a game you'll want to revisit again and again.
Waters Edge is a tactical card game for 2-4 players. Games last between 20 - 45 minutes and can be played from age 10 upwards.
The objective of the game is to gain as many points as possible in the timescale available. Points are gained by collecting, preserving and selling fish and expanding the town. Game play lasts for one 'week' with each day made up of 6 rounds of play; 4 day-time and 2 night-time.
Certain actions are only possible at night as they require a source of light i.e. using the Full Moon card or completing a Lighthouse, so tactical thinking is a must as the rounds move through the day.
How will you manage your town as time progresses?
What's in the game?
1 box, 1 instruction manual (full colour, in English), 1 Quick Play guide and 147 cards.
Each card has been hand-drawn and painted by Scottish artist, Catherine Redgate. The pack includes Time Cards, Base Cards, Boats, Nets, Fish, Helping Hands, Full Moons, Buildings, Cheeky Seagulls and many more....
...including a mystery bonus card (x3) with the Kickstarter edition to enhance your fish catching abilities!
....and now with such an amazing response, there'll be more cards to grab as we reach new stretch goals. Further details below!
Introduction to the Game Play
Players start with three base cards and three cards from the pack for their hand. Assign one player as the timekeeper to turn the time cards at the beginning of each round - they get to take the first go!
During each round, a player picks up a card and then carries out one of the following:
1. Play a card from their hand
2. Bring a catch (of fish) into the Ice House
3. Move the Ice House fish to the town
Boats, buildings and the ice house all hold different quantities of fish and fish score different points depending on their location at the end of the game. Keep this in mind as you plan your move!
With a range of action cards, every game is different and continues to provide a challenge whether 2, 3 or 4 players are playing.
What do the game tester's think?
"Waters Edge is great fun! Although it has lots of interesting elements it is easy to pick up and will fast become your new favourite! The artwork is gorgeous and detailed; making it a game you’ll want to visit again and again!"
"Waters Edge is a surprisingly addictive game that feels completely different each time you play it. It can swing in anyone's favour and can throw you in a multitude of unexpected directions. You might find yourself with all the fish and boats you could want, dominating the seas like the king of all fishermen, and yet with no land based assets to store or even sell them. Alternatively I've found myself in a town building frenzy, weakened at sea against my opponents, with a sudden pay off in the long run out of sheer luck and savvy card usage. It's easy to pick up and play over and over with so many different outcomes and it really does come down to how you decide to manage your assets and a little bit of luck!"
"I think the game is great for all the family. It is easy to follow and fun to see how it unfolds. The artwork is beautiful. It would be fun to play it for ages and see the whole thing laid out. Looking forward to buying my set."
"The cards are beautifully designed and it's easy to get distracted by the iridescent scales of the moonfish, or the sheer amount of detail thrown into the different buildings and items you'll pick up along the way. It really is quite a work of art as well as a unique experience, and it's one I highly recommend to anyone who loves a good game with friends or family! It's a game with a catch and it'll certainly catch your attention."

The Stretch Goals
Waters Edge has had an amazing start with the project goal being reached in just under 10 days from its launch! Now, as a thank-you to all its backers, and to help the game continue to improve, I'm introducing some brand new cards to add to your base pack and increase your gameplay opportunities which will be unlocked as we reach new levels!
I have been working behind the scenes (even before the launch of the Kickstarter project) to develop some awesome expansion packs for Waters Edge. Now, with just too many ideas to contain in just the expansion packs, these stretch goals give me the opportunity to let you grab some new bonus gameplay cards as we reach new heights with the campaign!
Unlocked stretch goals will be sent to every backer who has pledged £20.00 or more. The quantities of each new card will vary according to how many are needed to ensure good gameplay but you will receive at least 2 cards of each unlocked stretch goal. Artwork for each stretch goal will be released as it becomes (and stays) unlocked.
Help share the campaign far and wide and let's see how many stretch goals we can release!
Stretch Goal No.1 - UNLOCKED

Waters Edge has flown past its second stretch goal of £4500 which unlocks the 'Hourglass' card. This brilliant new action card allows players to take an extra turn immediately after their normal go.

Stretch Goal No. 3 - UNLOCKED
Oh my goodness me...Waters Edge has sailed right past its third stretch goal of £5000.... which means you've unlocked the 'PIRATE BOAT' - a boat card with 'special powers'!

Risks and challenges
Waters Edge is my first game - I have been involved in a range of art projects and commissions but this is my very first card game and what an exciting project it has been to create! Seeking support from backers as a new project launch will be my biggest challenge but I can honestly say, we've not stopped playing the game since its first working prototype! It's a winner!
Waters Edge will be made in the UK. The artwork has been created by myself, Catherine Redgate - www.catherine-redgate.co.uk - and the game design has developed between myself and my partner and lots of playing! With lots of great input from friends and family during the test runs, the full creative process has taken place in Scotland and the manufacturing and printing will be carried out by a small company in England.
All Waters Edge backers will be kept updated during the process and up to the delivery of the final product. Hopefully you'll be back for more.... because this game is just the beginning! There are plans to develop expansion packs and new card games to compliment both Waters Edge and my illustrated storybooks; but before I do that, let's get the first edition of Waters Edge to set sail!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
