WE HAVE A NEW REWARD FOR YOU:
Many have asked us how to create your own Cat Caravan, so we have created a new pledge of £10 or more for those with some nifty DIY skills: get a PDF to build your own Cat Caravan.
Hello, we are Merle and Bettina.
We are passionate about animal welfare and living with pets. Under our domestic cats’ soft fur beats the heart of a lion and it is our job to create a stimulating home environment that allows them to follow their true nature. Especially in the big smoke.
A little over a year ago, we had an idea. Cats love cardboard boxes. To our cats a box is a secure space for undisturbed playing and napping. Tired of using shabby, old boxes we built them a cardboard den that encourages play and also looks neat in our home.
We spent a lot of time developing a design that is durable enough to allow for some rowdy feline play as we felt the market is lacking this. We also included two toys that can be stalked, pounced and chased when you’re not about.
The result is our cardboard Cat Caravan. We hope you like it:
Sturdy design using double wall board for rowdy play of up to
three large cats
Two playing levels for jumping up and lying low
Plenty of peepholes for interactive play with you or their furry friends
Two cardboard toys included (bird and ball)
Replaceable scratch pad for the inside (as an optional extra, available March 2015)
Flat-folding for easy storage
No glue required to set-up the caravan
Made from 100% recycled cardboard and is 100% recyclable
Printed with water-based ink
Designed and produced in Britain
Dimensions (assembled): length 48cm, height 30 cm, width 32 cm
So far, we have invested in the design and initial prototyping. Die cutting and printing the graphics for our caravan from one large sheet of cardboard is costly. We have therefore decided to ask for your help of funding the initial production run. £6,500 will contribute a great deal to the manufacturing costs as well as the costs for producing your rewards.
In the event that we will receive more than our goal, we are planning to make the caravan available in additional colourways and would look into new design options.
On top of this, we are currently working on adding a replaceable scratch pad and have many more ideas to come. Our vision is to create a playhouse series with the same cardboard technology offering attractive designs for your home. Plus, we will work on new toys and already have a few concepts for novel cardboard treat dispensers that will appeal to your cats' hunting instincts.
If you and your family have a pet that would like a little caravanning, then please support our project.

Risks and challenges
Apart from securing funding for the initial production run, our main challenge is to manufacture a premium quality product and deliver it in the timeframe that we have promised to our backers.
Although we do not see any direct risks there are always unplanned variables when manufacturing a product. To help minimise any potential dangers, we have worked with a British supplier who has the right experience for our project and will be able to deliver a high-quality Cat Caravan in the proposed timeframe.
This supplier has already helped us to create the first caravan prototype as well as the cardboard packaging. Together, we have developed and tested the prototype before showing it to our raucous cats. We have then revisited and modified the designs to arrive at the latest version, which we are all very happy with.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
