Cassie’s Cause follows young animal activist Cassie Duncan on a fantastical journey of recovery.

Wait…I thought this was about Zombies?

Oh, it is — in a way.

When you meet Cassie, her older brother Gregory has recently passed away. On the night of his burial, Cassie wishes he could return and life would go back to the way it was. Her wish is granted. But there’s a catch. Cassie is now the proud owner of a Zombie.

So…not the typical Zombie film?

Cassie’s Cause uses the natural humor and horror of Zombies to tell a poignant story about a young girl coping with loss. It’s bloody and violent, funny and quirky, all while overflowing with heart.

Where did the idea come from?

Years ago, Rebekah had a dream about a little girl whose brother comes back as a Zombie and saves some puppies. That dream became the basis for Cassie’s Cause. Over the years, the project took on many different forms, but the timing never seemed right to pursue it.

As we say in the video, we’ve all known one another and worked together for years, and when we found ourselves back in the same place at the same time, the project finally began to come together.

What makes this project special and why should we give you our money?

Cassie’s Cause is told with no dialog, drawing rather on the physical and emotional expression of our actors. This serves to immerse the viewer in Cassie’s isolation, taking us through her experience as if we too are unable to connect with the world around us. It’s a unique look at loss, coping mechanisms, and the fabulous imaginary world existing inside every child’s mind.

We plan to use the funds raised here to build equipment that will help us create artistic, sweeping shots to tell this story with the beauty it deserves.

The film examines universal themes we all have faced or will face at some point in our lives. The title Cassie’s Cause references both her cause to protect animals in danger, and the need to save a child at risk of losing herself and what’s left of her family.

We want to create Cassie’s world in the most realistic and exciting way imaginable. This means buying and building sets, costumes, and buckets of Technicolor Red fake blood.

All funds raised will go to making the film as visually stunning as possible, whether used in production for make-up to transform a boy into a Zombie or for additional post-production software to transport the audience into Cassie's world.

I like the idea. It sounds like you have an awesome plan. But what do I get in return?

Besides our love and virtual puppy dog kisses, we have set up some fun incentives for our sponsors. For giving to this film you’ll not only receive lots of related swag, you’ll also walk away with the knowledge that you were a vital part in making this moviemaking dream come true. As film lovers, we think that in and of itself totally rocks. (But, the shirts, shout outs, and film credits are pretty cool, too!)

Thank you for taking the time to stop by, watch our video, and consider giving to our project.

Risks and challenges

Risks are minimal. However, since we are working with young actors in high school and middle school, we do have to schedule around their previous commitments, while also remaining considerate of the time and energy required of their parents to get them to the shoots.

As aspiring filmmakers, we all have day jobs or other obligations that we must consider as well. This presents the challenge of maneuvering around these elements to film, edit and score Cassie's Cause in time to submit to festivals by mid-November.

We have already scouted out locations and begun working on taking the necessary steps to get permission to film during the time frame we have allotted to us. Should things get off track with permits, we have set up alternatives and lined up favors we can call in to make the film happen no matter what.
