KiLA iLO is a webcomic that I've been publishing online for the past two and a half years. It's the story of short-fused, trigger-happy Kila Ilo, her laid-back best friend, Richard Ferris, and their tightly-wound boss, Dr. Kao.
KiLA iLO: Book 3 (Schadenfreude) is a collection of the next volume of the comic, to be published as a paperback book through CreateSpace a la Book One and Book Two. What you're funding is a small collection of titles that I need to order for myself to sell to people who want a signed copy, and to display at workshops- the workshops I'm able to go on because of the funds raised with the Book 2 Kickstarter! :)
Any money received beyond the listed goal will go towards advertising and marketing costs. If I reach $100 or more over the goal, I'll add three pages of bonus content and illustrations to the book. All backers will be thanked with a special thank-you page and also complimented so everyone who buys the book will know how cool you are! All backers will also receive a pack of downloadable exclusive digital art.
Pledges of $10 or more will receive one of the pages of the book in its original hand-drawn sketch form, signed by the artist (while supplies last). Pledges of $20 or more will receive the sketched page and the inked lineart of it. At the $50 level, you get everything mentioned previously- plus a signed copy of Book 3! At the $75 level, you also get a signed copy of Book 2! At the $100 level, you get Book 3, a special collection volume containing Book 1 and Book 2, and some extra exclusive artwork!
At the $50 level and up, you'll also receive a digital pack of three short stories from the world of KiLA iLO, each one three to five pages long, in full color and focusing on the past of one of the characters. This is a special new reward that I'm offering for the first time.
NOTE: Non-U.S. residents will have to pay an additional shipping cost for rewards that require shipping.
* Book One was originally going to be titled as a prologue, but the Kickstarter was funded more than I expected, allowing an expansion of the book. :) That's why the Kickstarter for it refers to it as a prologue.
Risks and challenges
Most of this Kickstarter has been well prepared in advance. Any delays would be from running out of shipping envelopes for the rewards and needing to purchase more, or from Createspace sending me books that have print errors, in which case I might need to order more copies before sending out all of the backer rewards that come with a book.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
