EDITx2: You guys are really changing my life. I'm going to be stepping out from behind the computer and into the real world to do live drawing demonstrations thanks to YOUR pledges.
This Kickstarter has now funded a publicist to get me into live drawing workshops. HOWEVER, I still need your help. Drawing workshops will require a document camera, which will require me to buy it. A document camera will enable me to project my drawing paper on a screen or wall so that people can watch me draw live. There is a NEW PLEDGE LEVEL that includes a video file of me using the document camera your pledges will pay for!
EDIT: The first day of the project, I'm only $10 away from the goal!!! I'm ecstatic!
If I get enough over the goal I can retain a publicist to do book signings, and also release a special version of Book One and Book Two together as a single volume in addition to publishing each of them separately!
KiLA iLO is a webcomic that I've been publishing online for the past two years. It's the story of short-fused, trigger-happy Kila Ilo, her laid-back best friend, Richard Ferris, and their tightly-wound boss, Dr. Kao.
Last summer, Kickstarter successfully funded Book One of KiLA iLO. You can check out that project here*.
KiLA iLO: Book Two (The Highway) is a collection of the next volume of the comic, to be published as a paperback book through CreateSpace a la Book One. What you're funding is a small collection of titles that I need to order for myself to peddle at conventions and directly to those fine folk who want a signed copy.
Any money received beyond the listed goal will go towards advertising and marketing costs. If I reach $100 or more over the goal, I'll add three pages of bonus content and illustrations to the book. All backers will be thanked with a special thank-you page and also complimented so everyone who buys the book will know how cool you are! All backers will also receive a pack of downloadable exclusive digital art.
Pledges of $10 or more will receive one of the pages of the book in its original hand-drawn sketch form, signed by the artist (while supplies last). Pledges of $20 or more will receive the sketched page and the inked lineart of it. At the $50 level, you get everything mentioned previously- plus a signed copy of Book 2! At the $100 level, you get Book 1, Book 2 AND a coffee mug!
One $150 backer will get all that- AND an original, one of a kind sketchbook filled with exclusive artwork.
NOTE: Non-U.S. residents will have to pay an additional shipping cost for the backer rewards.
* Book One was originally going to be titled as a prologue, but the Kickstarter was funded more than I expected, allowing an expansion of the book. :) That's why the Kickstarter for it refers to it as a prologue.
Risks and challenges
Most of this Kickstarter has been well prepared in advance. Any delays would be from running out of shipping envelopes for the rewards and needing to purchase more, or from Createspace sending me copies of Book 2 that have print errors, in which case I might need to order more copies before sending out all of the backer rewards that come with a book.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
