My name is Casey MacKenzie Johnson, and I have big dreams. Please help me make them a reality.
Since I was a little girl in California, I dreamed of moving to London to be a photographer. I am now finishing my MA in photography at London College of Fashion, and it’s time to make a splash.
Art and religion
During my studies, I have been looking at the relationship between art and religion. I am disappointed by the lack of contemporary artwork – photography in particular – that deals with Christian themes either critically, sincerely, or otherwise.
Please support me to create a high-impact art installation in a beautiful 15th Century London church. Help me challenge the idea that “good” art and religious sincerity cannot coexist. With your help, this goal can become a reality.
On Thursday November 27th 2014 (Thanksgiving Day!) I will be installing Baptised by Blood in St. Sepulchre’s church in the City of London. The show – a pop up for one night only – explores the concept of dying to oneself within the context of the relationship between the institutions of religion and art.
Exhibiting at St Sepulchre's is an important step in my practice. As a Christian and an artist, I make work that deals directly with overtly Christian themes, ideals and iconography. And although an exhibition is not required of my master’s project, I feel strongly that art should be immersive and that this is the best way to present my work, communicate my ideas and make it accessible to the community.
St Sepulchre’s is the perfect place for this to happen. Not only does ‘sepulchre’ mean tomb, which is super-appropriate to the content of Baptised by Blood, but the church also reflects the history of Christianity in London, and is ridiculously cool. It was built in 1450, gutted in the great fire of 1666, then rebuilt and renovated in the 1800s. Captain John Smith, founder of the state of Virginia and famed Disney character is buried there.
For one evening, I want to fill this space with art.
Why I need your support
I am asking for your support because I am a dreamer.
I want to do big things, and this is the beginning.
On November 27th I want people to walk into this space and FEEL something. I want to challenge preconceived notions about art and Christianity... and I want you to walk into this space and feel like you’re a part of something bigger than yourself.
Please help me do this by pressing the green button next to your pledge amount on the right and backing this project.
Everyone who contributes, at whatever level, will get a thank you on the Wall of Fame that I'll feature in the exhibition somehow.

How I will spend the money
This is a big deal. Sure, I can probably pull something off on my own, but it will not live up to my ambitious ideals. With your support I will be able to:
• Create pieces on a larger scale to do justice to this incredible space
• Build a complete installation with sound, lighting, and fixtures to transform the space
• Document the show properly to widen the impact of the exhibition
• Put on an amazing event for all the people who have loved and supported me along the way
• Impress the people I am going to need help from in the future!
Thank you so much for supporting the vision and taking the time to look at my campaign. Your time, consideration and support are hugely appreciated. I am SO excited to be undertaking such a project and deeply thankful for the support of such an awesome community all over the world.

Risks and challenges
I am prepared for the challenge of completing my work and committed to making the exhibition the absolute best I can. I know this won't be easy, but I am lucky to have amazing friends and family to help and support me along the way. Plus, the more I raise, the more I can put towards the exhibition which will save time by getting more help and faster solutions!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
