This book will celebrate and recognize writing as an art form, interwoven into the fabric of ArtPrize.
Imagine This! is an anthology that will celebrate, recognize and award writing as an art form, in participation with the Grand Rapids ArtPrize Competition. Our goal is to launch this charter publication as the first of what we hope will become an Annual ArtPrize Anthology Collection.
This project is not supported financially or managed by ArtPrize, although they have granted us their approval to proceed. Local bookstore, Schuler Books will be partnering with us to publish Imagine This through Chapbook Press.
Our anthology will contain works submitted by writers from around the country in a variety of genres. The anthology will also include color reproductions of art from past ArtPrize entries. We feel this elevates the concept of the written word as an art form while celebrating the tradition established by ArtPrize.
A steering committee of the Cascade Writer's Group will manage the entire project, including marketing and promotion, overseeing submissions, working with an editorial board in the selection process, and collaborating with Schuler Books to publish the anthology.
Generous Kickstarter donations combined with funds generated from $20 submission entry fees will 1) cover printing costs, (2) fund an awards ceremony to honor our published writers, and (3) cover business expenses. Kickstarter funds will make it possible to cover our estimated first year costs and set the stage for future growth.
The project begins with a $0 account balance but a strong passion for the written word and a belief that writing as an art form should be included and celebrated as part of The Grand Rapids ArtPrize event. With your financial support and a great deal of volunteer effort from the steering committee, a good beginning will be crafted for a new, and exciting part of the ArtPrize story.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As members of the Cascade Writer's Group, we are keenly aware of what it will take to produce this anthology. We have established our timeline, committees, and tasks. We are all passionate about seeing this project through to the end and have voluntarily given up a slice of our lives to ensure it's success. For the core group of us, there will be a great deal of satisfaction when the anthology rolls off the presses and is unveiled at ArtPrize in September, 2013.
Our timeline is admittedly tight. We have purposefully tried to give ourselves a reasonable cushion at certain points in the process that we anticipate could be problematic.
The personal risks of volunteer time and uncompensated efforts are immense. The funding will provide us the means to make publication costs and get the project off the ground and of course provide a huge boost of encouragement to the core group.
