The Short Version
We're looking for £550 pounds to help make our debut season of plays even more noticeable and amazing than they already are.
What Is AXIS Arts?
- A collective of theatre artists
- Based in London
- Designers, directors, actors, writers, producers and photographers
- In the early stages of their careers
- Desperate to make really incredible theatre
- Dedicated, passionate & intelligent
- Just cocky enough to think we're worth supporting in a very crowded city
Most impressively, we're trying to be all those things whilst earning enough to survive in London.
To find out more about us, you can:
What Is The "Emerging Artists Season"?
A set of plays we've put together to show what we have to offer. We've put together a season of material that's funny, weird, subtle, devastating and beautiful (sometimes all at the same time), and we're showing that material to London (at The White Bear Theatre) and Brighton (Upstairs At Three & Ten) from March til Early May.
We have no money at all, so right from the start this has been a zero budget season: we've made sure we can put these plays on without any funding at all. Where we've needed resources, we've begged, borrowed, stolen*, scavenged, made and pretended. Theatre, guerilla style.
If You've Got A Zero-Budget Season, Why Do You Want Funding?
Because we've fallen in love with what we're doing. We've done some fantastic work with nothing but our bodies and whatever we could manage to find. But there's two things we just can't maneuver our way around:
- Design - Our designers are wizards, possibly fuelled by dark powers, but there's a limit to what they can magic up unaided. These plays deserve that small back-up cash pot to get those one or two perfect items that will really finish the look.
- Marketing - We're busting the internet open with shouting about the season, and Facebook will collapse under the weight of our viral doings. But we'd love to get out there in the real world, put up posters, give out fliers, get space in publications.
What's In It For Me?
Loads! No matter how much you can spare for us, we'd like to acknowledge your help. We don't have much in the way of "stuff" to give you, but we've got a lot of skills and the creativity to use those in interesting ways for you.
If you like the look of some of the bigger stuff, like the Immersive House Party, but just can't afford anywhere near that much, band together with some friends and do it collectively. It all needs to come out of one account but you can tell us at the time that it's from a load of you.
So What's In The Season?
Here's what's on...
Unwrap Your Candy
Director: Nick Bradford
Designer: Zosia Stella-Sawicka
Inspired in equal parts by Hitchcock, Roald Dahl and the DSM-IV, Unwrap Your Candy will jolt your senses and tingle your spine as it takes in the dangers of childhood, the tribulations of a young violin prodigy, a house full of unspeakable secrets, a precociously intelligent foetus and an insatiable thirst for tabloid atrocities.
Director: Menelaos Karantzas
Designer: Nick Gott
The Horatian's story retold by Menelaos Karantzas, based on texts by Titus Livius, Pierre Corneille, Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Muller. How can language speak about horrid historical moments? The difficulty of assigning unambiguous moral significance to actions of violence made in the name of the people has changed through ages. Based on a Roman story and three theatrical texts inspired by it, this pastiche explores the way of talking about individuals and their deeds in a contemporary context.
Director: Jason Warren
Designer: Charlie Marie Austin
In a city in England, five students and their teacher attempt to lead a normal life in the midst of a generation-slaughtering war. Skipping between evolutionary biology, the meaning of love, and humanity's innate savagery, the audience is left with one question: what is bravery?
Director: Will Davis
Designer: Rachel Carter
In this one act farce, Will Davis brings the acclaimed Sean Michael Welch to our shores. A gentleman's attempt to reclaim his honour in a duel goes horribly awry in Gentlemen, Please.
You know it. We've teamed up with the gorgeous and twisted Fighetta, and they'll be doing shows with us on the Brighton dates.
Devised by Fighetta
Fighetta welcomes you to the world of Vesta!: a lustrous, theatrical, and darkly comic celebration of humanity, inspired by the films of Federico Fellini and the compositions of Nino Rota. Provocative, extravagant and often bizarre, with startling imagery and outrageous behaviour, this playful physical piece is brought to you by six sordid women and features blood, grapes and a wedding (possibly).

Risks and challenges
The best bit is, there's no risk. This season is happening, even if we don't make the target. All we're asking is your help to make it even better.
We know we can deliver a great season; everyone involved in AXIS has either trained or had a career in the creative industries at the highest levels, and the work coming out of our rehearsals already is phenomenal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
