We are offering an updated version of our bottle opener for this project. It's been made to work perfectly with your lattice key shackle and made from 6Al-4V titanium. The opener is cut on our waterjet for a perfect finish.

Most keys, cards, USB drives, and other accessories with a 3/16 inch or larger hole will work with our key shackle.

Materials

Both the chassis and opener are made from titanium. The chassis is made from a strong, grade 2 titanium that gives it the slight ductility needed for the shaping process. The opener is made from a 6Al-4V titanium alloy which is extremely strong and wear resistant. The screws for the keys are made from 18-8 stainless steel (not aluminum like most other key shackles).

The Story and Development

About six months ago, we received a key shackle from another Kickstarter project. It worked well but was just too bulky. We decided to apply the same principle from our previous project to this one: design the lightest and simplest chassis possible without sacrificing functionality. After about 11-13 design iterations and prototypes we found the right design.

Manufacturing Process

All key shackles and bottle openers are being made by us personally on an Omax waterjet cutter right here in Salt Lake City. They are then formed on a custom jig to the final shape. Afterwards, they are brushed with a wire wheel to create smooth surfaces and edges. We learned a lot about titanium processing from our last project and are applying the lessons we learned to this one.

 Forever American Made

All our key shackles and openers are made by us right here in Salt Lake City. Moreover, the screws and raw materials are both from an American company. This is to ensure that your key shackle and opener are of the highest quality.

Risks and challenges

As with any project, there can be problems arising during the transition from prototype to production. Designing and prototyping even a small product like this has taken about five months. For this project, we're utilizing our own production equipment to ensure complete quality control for this project. We will be cutting both the chassis and bottle opener on an Omax Waterjet here in Salt Lake. The samples you see above were made on the same machine that will handle our production runs. Our group will be able to handle any volume of production up to 20,000 units. In the event that one of our suppliers for materials falls through, we have located another local supplier for each material and part in order to ensure your key shackles and openers ship on time.
