Hello and Thank You for reading about our project! We are The Plant People™ behind the Water & Light Plant Shop in NYC and we are launching a new photo book titled DIG IT that captures several of our favorite plants in their most exposed state. Our 24-page photo book features plants with no pots or dirt, with roots shown in full detail hung on our showroom wall in Ridgewood, Queens. Most of these plants are sitting on the coffee tables and window sills of our customers today!
We came up with the idea for a photo book as a way to showcase these beautiful plants in a way that most people don't normally experience them. Only after opening our shop did we develop an appreciation for the incredible nature of plant biology and our obsession with presenting plants in an elegant way. We decided that the best way to capture this beauty would be to host an exclusive event at our showroom where we will expose the roots of many plants and create an installation on our gallery wall whereby patrons of the event may photograph, inspect, touch, view, and otherwise experience the plants in their exposed state. At the end of our event, patrons may purchase the plants in the installation and we will re-pot them in exclusive locally-handmade ceramic planters. Our photo book is a way for us to create a form of art that patrons may take with them after the show.
Once we launch our Kickstarter campaign, we'll give ourselves about 30 days to wrap up the photoshoots and the layout of the book. We'll close the campaign on August 17th and send the files to the printer for production. We anticipate that the printer will be able to turn the books around in 2-3 weeks. With shipping time included, we hope that we'll have a copy on your table by the beginning of October!
Because we will be using Blurb to print the books and a local screen printer to create the clothing, our product minimums are quite small which offers us amazing flexibility. Our goal with this project is to print only as many copies as people want, which means our costs after Kickstarter fees will be limited to only the number of books that people have purchased. This project is less of a fundraiser in the traditional sense, and more of an art installation for the joy of plants!
We would be so honored by your help in creating this installation and making this event possible. Thank you so much.
