Update 11/11/12 - THANK YOU!!! We've surpassed our goal with flying colors, and couldn't be more grateful. Your support is so incredible. For more info on what we'll be up to next, check out www.carolinerosemusic.com
Caroline and Jer here! We'd just like to say thank you for checking out our Kickstarter. It means a lot to us you're taking some time to find out what we've been working on and where we hope to go next!
"America Religious" is our third studio record and a collection of songs we'd like to put out as our official debut. It's taken us two albums to truly find our sound and we must say, we're quite pleased with the direction they've taken us and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
As you know, without the backing of a major record label, musicians essentially become their own advocates, either funding their work out-of-pocket or finding clever ways to raise the money without having to sacrifice or dilute a creative vision. With our Kickstarter campaign we have devised a budget that allows us to do all the things a record label would normally pay for, but on a much more reasonable scale.
Our Budget: $8,000 (click HERE for a detailed description)
- $2,000 - Mixing/Mastering
- $2,500 - CD/Vinyl Duplication
- $2,000 - PR Campaign
- $1,500 - Tour Support
If we reach our goal together, we can fulfill our promise to give these songs the life they deserve…and it all starts with YOU! Let's hit the road!!
* * * IF we do NOT meet our goal, the project will not be funded (your credit card will NOT be charged) and no packages will be sent out… So let's do this!!
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:
- Check out our exclusive Pledge Packages & pick your favorite!Take a look at our chart below for a visual of each package.
- HELP US SPREAD THE WORD through Twitter, Blogs, Facebook, Texts, Email, Smoke Signals...Your shout-outs are supremely helpful in making this all possible!
IF we exceed our goal, the funds will be split three ways between additional tour support (the more we have of this, the greater the likelihood we will play your city!), a longer/more involved PR campaign (so even more people can hear these songs) and a music video fund (so there can be a visual piece of art to go along with a song from this record). The more you help us raise, the further along we get!
What others are saying:
"...This is the way songs are supposed to be written. Delicate, beautiful, and full of heart. The world needs more of what she is putting into it." -Jesse Ruben
"She has talent... No doubt about it. Cleverly funny, too… Both she and her bud who played mando!" -Claire Lynch
"Listened and loved… You have a gorgeous voice and are writing some stunning songs… Go get em - You sound great!!!" -Rachael Yamagata
"…Love the songs and Caroline's arresting poetry and voice. She is really good--and makes my sad song list so much happier/sadder." -Diane Sawyer
Risks and challenges
The obvious risk is not reaching our goal, which would mean that we would hold off on pressing the record and touring to promote it. If we do not reach $8,000 in pledges no one's credit card will be charged. The other risk involved, and may in fact be far more important, is that we would lose a lot of momentum. Without being able to print the record or tour we'd have to put it on the shelf for a while, take on other projects and jobs to save the proper amount of funding, and ultimately run the risk of not being able to tour or promote the record at all. Since most independent artists actually lose money touring and opening for more established bands, our Kickstarter fund would be the way in which we could do all that without coming away with thousands of dollars in credit card debt or dwindling away our measly savings.
One major challenge, and probably the biggest of all, is making sure people come away with a proper understanding of what it is we're doing and why it's important. We realized that in order to fully convey our passion about this project we'd have to prove that this record is unique and that it needs a voice. In an industry that seems only to support mass-produced music with increasingly shortened expiration dates, it is extremely important to make sure that music made in this fashion be preserved.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
