We've got cello, accordion, trumpet, mandolin, percussion, upright bass; songs in French, Portuguese, and English; songs on banjo and guitar; and a top notch recording studio in Portland, Maine -- all we need now is YOUR participation to make it happen!
Hello! Thank you for your interest in this project -- my first fully realized professional album!
So much has happened in the past year of my musical life: I've had performance opportunities in New York City, Quebec, (a show in Bulgaria!) and all over New England; I've performed at the Ossipee Valley Music Festival and the Saddleback Valley Bluegrass Festival with members from the band Tricky Britches. I was selected as a Showcase Artist at the North Eastern Regional Folk Alliance Conference, and was the winner of the Maine Songwriters Association Songwriting Contest. In short, things are moving right along!
With so many steps in the right direction this year alone, I am feeling really good about how music has taken root in my life. I'm ready to make an album that reflects where I am and what I have to offer. I have a community of incredibly talented musician friends, a top notch studio to record in, and the help and support of singer/songwriter Putnam Smith, who will be taking on the role of producer for the project. Most importantly, I have a new collection of songs which I have been working on and refining in the past couple of years since my last solo release in 2010. These songs were inspired by experiences not only here in Maine, but also from my travels through Asia, Europe, and throughout North and South America. All of these adventures have taught me the beauty and power of community. So here I am back in Maine, ready to celebrate this gift. With everyone's support, these songs will be able to come fully to life, not only for my existing fans, friends, and family, but for listeners all across the country (and some parts of Europe!), when the album is released in an 8 week radio campaign. This is an ambitious project, and I can't do it alone.
I am very excited to invite you to be a part of this creative endeavor. Kickstarter is revolutionizing what it means to be a 'patron of the arts' and I hope you're as excited as I am about working together to get these songs out into the world.
Risks and challenges
Here are all the elements that go into a studio recording, and the budget we've come up with:
Graphic Design 250
Replication of 1000 CDs 1450
Radio campaign 4000
Total budget: $13,550
The goal for this Kickstarter campaign is $8,500, which will go a long way towards making this album a reality, and will also help take my music career to an entirely new level. This budget includes plans for a radio campaign that would target public radios and "folk-friendly" radio stations across the country, and even some stations in Europe.
So what's in it for YOU?! Well! In addition to the honor of being a 'patron of the arts'...I've developed various incentives, at different levels of giving, to entice you to reach the fullest potential of your generosity! There's a limited edition vinyl EP of the 'French Songs' from the album; there's a specially commissioned work of art (musical or visual!) made for you by me; there are lessons in Songwriting, Foreign Language, or Yoga; home cooked brunch -- and more! You can check out all the incentives at the side of the page. I hope you have as much fun checking them out as I had dreaming them up!
This is a big exciting adventure that I'm setting out on -- I hope you'll be part of the journey!
