This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, July 3 2019 3:01 PM UTC +00:00.
Sex needs a rebrand. This is AURORE.
AURORE is a curated community of feminist and queer writers telling real stories about sex, in their own way.
AURORE publishes honest stories about people’s intimate experiences, celebrating the sex they loved, the sex that changed them, and the sex they want to reimagine.
We solicit, encourage, and curate a collection of erotic literature that is as authentic and emotional as it is arousing. Our submission process guides new writers to take the plunge with their pen.
Our ever-expanding community of talented writers includes first-timers, experienced writers like Zachary Zane, Laura Delarato, and Stoya, and regular contributors who also publish at places like The Advocate Magazine, Playboy, Vice and Vogue.
We are raising funds to bring AURORE to its full potential. We've soft-launched the site, and now we need your help to get it fully operational and sustainable. Your contribution will go towards our badass and unapologetic writers and supporting new authors. We will grow our sexy literati by hosting writing workshops and book club events, creating safe community spaces for provocative storytelling.
It's time to takeover the conversation. Join AURORE in telling new stories about sex.
Ummm, How Do You Pronounce AURORE?
Like Oh-Roar. It's French.
Tell Me More About AURORE
AURORE is raw and real.
Contributors call the experience of writing real sex stories cathartic, healing, and tonic for their relationships. Readers report boners of all genders on the regular. Everyone agrees the stories provoke and reward.
Our writers are people of all backgrounds, who use casual language, reveal subtleties, and mention hook-ups at local hangouts: the details of real-life encounters. No one is a professional erotica writer, and it shows—in a good way. Writing and reading AURORE content allows people to reflect on and discuss the kind of sex they’re having, the kind of sex they want to be having, and what their peers are experimenting with.
Your support will ensure this project has legs to take its next step.
AURORE is Vulnerable
Each writer’s decision to “go there” opens the conversation for others, creating a trusted space.
Sexiness is often narrowly portrayed. Somehow, telling the truth feels risky.
We inspire and educate through our stories. They are ours to own.
I'm Carly. I founded AURORE in February 2019 after six months of restless dreaming and ideation. Since its inception, I have devoted one-on-one attention with each writer, editing to enhance their stories, and urging them to access deeper truths.
I'm a writer, content creator, and kinda suddenly the founder of an amazing community. I started AURORE when my travel writing started to veer into the erotic, and I realized there was nowhere to pitch it. There are a whole bunch of sites about women’s sexual health and how-to type stuff, and of course a ton of spaces dedicated to cis-male pleasure, but nowhere existed purely to provide masturbatory material in the form of real sex stories to women and the queer community. So I decided to create a space for the content I wanted to consume.
The word 'erotica' still has a kinda awkward connotation for a lot of people, which is puzzling, since porn is so pervasive, but I’m hoping to normalize that, and update the genre for smart, sophisticated readers.
This one-woman initiative has already seen significant growth in audience, interest, and submissions—imagine what we can achieve when we build momentum!
Thanks to the Kickstarter Creator-in-Residence program and countless favors from supportive fans, AURORE is now ready to grow.
By backing AURORE now, you’ll be first to witness all of its transformations, word by word.
Nom de Plume
Another French thing! AURORE is named for the 19th-century author, Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin, who wrote under the pen name George Sand. She was a woman attempting to succeed in a man’s world, and was known to dress as a gentleman to enter spaces restricted to women; by reclaiming her true name for the site, we give a wink and a nod to her true identity.
Some of our writers follow this trend, donning pen names of the women they adore, imitate, and invent. Our boldness is in the story, our identities are in our expression, and our personal details are private. Our sharing is mysterious in all the right spots.
Aurore is also the goddess of the dawn. Think: rebirth, light, hope.

What Will AURORE Do With Your Support?
Writing about sex is work! While AURORE is built out from the labor of love, we will only sustain if we fairly compensate our writers. Currently, AURORE publishes 4 new stories a month. When you back $50 or more, you will help us publish a voice.
AURORE intends to create physical safe spaces in addition to our digital safe space, to discuss sex and relationships in a positive, supportive environment. Even though AURORE stories are focused on celebrating sex, we realize that things are more complicated. Facilitated by our staff and writers, we open the discussion.
AURORE's Erotica Book Club selects a modern or old-school erotic work to read and discuss. Our meetings have already proven to serve the shared need for open exploration of sex and the issues around it, and future writing workshops and events will do the same.
The Creators and The Future
We're constantly working to make AURORE a beautiful, easy-to-navigate space with a solid business backbone to keep it thriving. Your support will ensure we can continue to focus on this worthy project, and keep operations running smoothly.
Submit to AURORE
We are always open to new writers—submissions from women of color and QTPOC to the front!
We want all the dirty details, but with names changed to protect the not-so-innocent. We're mainly interested in works of non-fiction, because we believe they have the greatest ability to educate and capture the sexual zeitgeist, but as we all know, recounting intimate encounters often veers into fantasy and embellishment. That's cool, too.
Subs welcome here.
We're making a keepsake pocket-sized digital collection, ideal for one-handed scrolling, with never-seen-before AURORE stories and collage art.
We're printing a limited edition "READ PORN" t-shirt that is as cute as it is subversive.

Risks and challenges
Navigating the sex industry has made Aurore no stranger to challenges—people get super weird about condoning women's pleasure, which is a major bummer, but a great reminder how much we are needed!
Our biggest challenge lies in the current media climate. By raising funds to pay writers and staff and continue to community build, we hope to garner enough interest to eventually sustain Aurore and its writers simply through ad revenue, partnerships, sponsored content, or a paywall or subscription service.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
