Battles have waged on in the world of Goatopia for over two years with no end in sight. Bonds have been forged and enemies made. A new hero joins the fray, bringing new goats, new equipment, and new creatures to the fight!
What is BattleGoats?
BattleGoats is a modern combination of Memory & War where players alternate turns in card battle to determine a winner using the highest number value. Every card in the game has a unique ability or modifier causing number values to change as the game goes on. The person with the last card in play wins. Rules are easy to pick up and games play in as little as 5-30 minutes.
BattleGoats: Reinforced is a full reprint + expansion which replaces the original base game entirely. It is a standalone game, not just an expansion to the original.
Reinforced adds 1 new Hero, 21 Goats, 2 Equipment, and 2 Creatures to the mix! All copies of BattleGoats going forward will be Reinforced, meaning they will contain all 81 unique cards ready to battle out of the box. (Reinforced includes all of the original 55 cards, plus the 7 added via Kickstarter Stretch Goals.)
How to Play
Each player gets a random Hero and recruits an army of goats to battle with.
To build an army, all players are dealt 8 additional cards from the deck at random. Any remaining cards are set aside and not used for that game. (Advanced players can draft to select their army.)
With 9 cards in hand, each player lays them out face down in a 3x3 pattern to set up their battlefield.
How you choose to lay out your battlefield will depend on the cards you get/choose. Every card in the game is different, and they all have unique abilities or modifiers. Some cards get bonuses for being adjacent to other cards. Some get bonuses depending on where you place them on your battlefield. Some will be stronger when used first, or last, or against certain card types.
BattleGoats has an immense amount of depth with every layout being different, but the game can still be learned in under 5 minutes and played in as fast as 5-15 minutes.
How to Battle
The player that finishes laying their battlefield out the fastest gets to choose who attacks first. To attack, select one of your cards, then choose any one of any opponent’s cards.
Both cards are flipped over and the higher number after any modifiers wins. Special abilities or modifiers are all unique and shown on the bottom of each card.
If the numbers are equal, both cards are defeated.
After the attack is finished, the losing card is discarded and the winning card flips back over, then it is the next players turn.
You can look at your own cards as many times as you need to throughout the game, but you'll need to remember what your opponent's cards do, which ones were where, and what abilities and modifiers they used against you.
The player with the last card in play wins.

We've mentioned it a few times, but we want to be clear; every single card in the game is unique - different abilities, different artwork, different modifiers. We've played over 3,000 games of BattleGoats since the original release 3 years ago (that's not an exaggeration) and every play is different.
BattleGoats comes in our custom designed polypropylene plastic box for maximum durability. We've spent the last few years refining our boxes and making small tweaks to improve the way they open/close, and their overall durability. This is a game you can toss in a bag to bring anywhere and not worry about it being destroyed.
We don't artificially inflate stretch goals by starting with low quality card stock and upgrade if we fund. We use top quality 300gsm Chinese Black Core card stock with a Poker Varnish to make sure our artwork pops and our cards can handle being shuffled by even the roughest players.
Behind the Game
BattleGoats was created by Tucker & Shannon who wanted to make a fun, accessible game that was also entertaining for players of all ages and experience levels. We spent countless hours playtesting the initial version with hundreds of players before our first time on Kickstarter.
Sadly, Shannon passed away unexpectedly before we were able to finish developing the expansion. She would have wanted everyone to keep battling and having fun, as she loved seeing everyone smile while playing games. Those who met her at the conventions we did, or saw the joy in her face in the videos we posted can attest to that.
Santiago joined on to do the artwork, and has since created 81 unique cards with amazing and vibrant detail, bringing the world of Goatopia to life.
We're back on Kickstarter now after completing the development and testing of the expansion, hoping to bring this amazing game to all of you.
The first print run of BattleGoats sold out thanks to support from fans, friends, retailers, and distributors worldwide, so rather than reprint just the base game, we wanted to bring in a whole slew of new characters and expand the game in its entirety. All new games of BattleGoats will be Reinforced.
We originally wanted to offer just the expansion cards for those who already had the base game, but we found that since we're using a different manufacturer, the card stock and printing is slightly different, meaning you can tell which cards are part of the new set and which are from the original game. This doesn't work well when a large part of the game relies on hidden information.
That being said, we are offering a $5 discount for anyone who purchased and owns a copy of BattleGoats. To back at this tier, you have two options.
- If you backed our original Kickstarter campaign, you can enter your backer # during our pledge manager after the campaign.
- If you purchased BattleGoats from anywhere other than the original Kickstarter and want the discount on Reinforced, you can take a picture of you (and/or your group) playing the game with someone holding the box and send us a link on social media. Simply tag @CardLords on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter so we can share images of fans around the world!
Quality is one of our big focuses, and as we mentioned we won't create fake stretch goals by listing card quality or box quality improvements. The box will be jam packed to the brim with all the new cards, so there isn't any room to add more. That being said, we want to offer something fun for our backers who support us through the process.
- 331 Backers: Our original campaign had 331 backers. If we pass that with Reinforced, everyone who backs for a copy of the game will get a Super Goat sticker included in their box!
- Social Shares via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram: Share our BattleGoats: Reinforced Launch post on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram 100 times and everyone will get a special edition Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn sticker! ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cardlords/battlegoats-reinforced?ref=2bqn75 )
- $9,737: Our original campaign raised $9,737 on Kickstarter. If we pass that amount with Reinforced, every game backer will get a Necromancer Goat sticker!
We're trying something a little bit different with shipping this time. All US games will be fulfilled in house using tracked USPS First Class shipping. These games will be the first to arrive. Shipping is included in the pledge price for US backers.
International backers will have orders packed in-house, then we will be shipping boxes to a fulfillment company to ship games to backers. We are still working with different fulfillment partners to ensure the fastest and most reliable shipping. Because we are packing orders from here, there will be a few week delay for international backers while the orders are sent from us to the final fulfillment location.
Help share the word!
Risks and challenges
This is our fifth time on Kickstarter, after having successfully funded BattleGoats, Take the Gold, The Pirate's Flag, and Fallen Treasures previously thanks to fans and supporters worldwide. We've also done large scale printing with CardLords Tokens for the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, so we know many of the hurdles that can come our way.
We're trying something a bit different with BattleGoats: Reinforced, and trust that our backers will push us to fund quick enough that we'll be able to order games before waiting for the campaign end, meaning we'll be able to ship them out much sooner than would usually be available. There's a bit more of a risk if funding takes until the last day, but we're confident our fans old and new will get us there.
We never discount that the unexpected can happen. We will do everything we can to minimize the possible risks, and should any issues or delays arise, we will notify backers immediately.
