7/26 - STRETCH GOAL #2
Seemed impossible, but yesterday we reached our second stretch goal when getting 200% funded! We unlocked a tuck box improvement. What does this mean?
After receiving the first prototypes we noticed some box flaws due to the combination of die cut + plastic window + a suitable template. Some mistakes were the thickness reduction, meaning that the deck couldn't fit properly inside after bending or springing it. Fixing all these things meant a big extra cost that needed to be paid in the production process.
But now, this will be fixed and you'll have the best box out there, produced specially for it. Thanks to all the backers, reaching this goal means a lot, and I'm working to make a top-quality deck!
7/06 - STRETCH GOAL #1
As we reached our 150% stretch goal, this means that Stellars will be traditionally cut! This type of production is perfect for faro shuffles, and for increasing the handling quality.
7/01 - CUSTOM BRICK BOXES!
6/30 - FUNDED!
My name is Marc Ventosa. I'm a young entrepreneur who loves the expression of pure art through graphic design. In the case of playing cards, there're ways of getting a cool, efficient and memorable artwork. Today, I'm proud to show you my freshest creation, Stellar Playing Cards.
Some months ago I founded Cardinates, wishing to explore the undiscovered paths of graphic design and the emotional study behind those. My journey of making the brand a reality begins here, with this project, so it has an enormous personal weight.
Can't forgot to mention that I've been practising magic and cardistry for more than five years, so if you're an everyday card enthusiast, this is your deck!
Before developing the full explanation around the deck concept, it's important to make ourselves a question. What are playing cards?
Are they just pieces of paper? Are they just a simple object?
Well, there may be multiple answers to this abstract question. I can compare it with a book, because both have a deep meaning behind, an untouchable one. For me, a deck is much more than cut sheets of embossed paper. A deck is much more than just a material product. It's much more than a crushed stock and much more than a varnish coat. In fact,
a deck is a powerful tool of art expression
That being introduced, let's start with the main features of this crowdfunding.
- 52 poker playing cards + 2 jokers
- Fully customized back and fronts
- Use of gold and silver metallic inks
- The coolest box in the space featuring a circle die cut
- Limited Edition deck. Only 1000 printed. (accordingly)
- Printed by Hanson Chien Production Co.
- Assurance of a deck which took more than 1 year to polish
The main concept of this deck came after the idea to combine space thematics with a minimalist, flat and easy-understandable artwork. So I took a trendy technique called the "speed lines", which are basically rounded-rectangle shapes creating a melting effect.
I was heavily inspired by casino-style decks, composing a mirrored back that could fit both cardists and magicians needs. Combining pastel moon and grey tones I got a vibrant and captivating back, perfect to accentuate motions and dynamize them, focusing on the position game.
An extremely cool feature is that I'm producing Stellars with gold and silver metallic inks, which is an undoubtedly appreciated thing when flourishing. The colours have been precisely selected in Pantone to offer you the best combination when printed. I can personally assure you that they look incredibly good when holding them in hands; the colours blend perfectly.
Although the back design seems a bit disordered, it has a perfect composition to fit in with the super-galactic box design. You'll discover what's the box featuring in the next section.
The box, oh the box! Well, you better see it in pictures. It's featuring gold and silver inks, an incredible melting design and a super-well-achieved circle die cut! Design has never been there to uselessly fill but to be aesthetically pleasing. This die cut represents a telescope in which you can see the moon in the perfectly composed back design.
We had long talks with Hanson (the producer) about this feature. After several tests, we got one of the greatest circle die cuts you'll have ever seen (wait, I think it's the first deck to feature it).
One little detail to mention is that this box has a stunning matte texture, imitating the moon one. The feeling when you hold the deck is lightness, softness and an unbelievable desire to shuffle the cards. What's more, the mid-long flap of the box will help your cards to stay safely in it, and also gives a cool and satisfying sensation when closing it.
Stellar Playing Cards integrate a compact face artwork, following the standard bottom lines. Although that, there's space (literally) for fantastic custom courts, on the path of trendy minimalism.
The aces mustn't get left behind, so I designed a little illustration of an observatory for the most important one, the Ace of Spades. The others show a customised big pip leading the prime style.
And finally, the Jokers, reaching the moon! Featuring an astronaut and the producer's logo (HCPC).
Stellars are being printed by Hanson Chien Production Company, which is a top-quality printing company located in Taiwan and focused on playing cards. Some remarkable projects of HCPC are Odyssey Playing Cards, Chicken Nugget Cards, Juggler Playing Cards and Implicit Playing Cards.
The deck will be using the Luxury Paper Stock, it's basically a crushed stock perfect for both magicians and cardists, having an incredible durability plus an awesome handling. The finish we'll be using is Legendary Finish, really useful for the fanning + packet-cutting combination, chosen after a backer poll.
As mentioned, the box features a custom circle die cut, designed to last and to show another concept. Expect maximum quality on the matte touch, the cellophane and the product itself.
Only 5 will be printed, get your super cool uncut sheet now before they're gone!

Risks and challenges
The project itself it's a big challenge, but I've been preparing and setting up all things for more than one year and I will continue doing so to make the deck a reality.
Stellars are being printed by HCPC, which is a trustable and top-quality producer. Cards will have the best feeling out there.
About the shipping, both Gambler's Warehouse and HCPC are the responsible for this. Professional, committed, trustworthy and with high positive feedback, this won't be a challenge at all.
Let's say that being funded is the only existing risk. That's why I need your help in this :)
Any other issue or non-expected mistake will be announced and solved with the less time possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
