About

Please Note: The Dance Card! rule book is still a work in progress, but you can view it by clicking the image above. Most of the necessary rules text is there, but the graphics on several pages are incomplete. Feel free to comment and make suggestions!

Cardboard Console will handle the customs fees and taxes associated with transporting the product, so there will be no unexpected payments for backers in the US, Canada, the EU, Australia, and the specified Asian countries in the chart above. We will work with the best shipping companies in the business, including Fulfillrite, Shapiro, Aetherworks, VFI Asia, GamesQuest, and Snakes & Lattes. Not only are they great at shipping and minimizing damage, they are knowledgeable about board games and Kickstarter campaigns.

What is PledgeManager? PledgeManager is a website that helps us manage rewards, collect shipping payments, and update your addresses.

When will I pay for shipping? You will be asked to pay for shipping through PledgeManager about two to three months after the end of the campaign. You will also have the option to increase your pledge if you want additional copies of the game or if you wish to upgrade from the Wallflower pledge. We will keep you updated on when to do this via email, so make sure you give us an accurate email address (check your spam folder just in case). Additionally, you can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The most detailed updates will arrive by email.

We will work with our backers and artists to create 16 new custom cards, and we will simultaneously finalize art for stretch goals. Backers who pledged at the Showstopper level will need to send us their reference materials by July 23rd. The manufacturer will approve all the art files (we have already started this process, but it cannot be completed until all the stretch goals and custom cards are finalized). Once the files are ready for high-quality manufacturing, we will receive a sample to approve. Safety testing will be performed by a third-party company. Should customs ask for a safety test report, it will be readily available so that our shipments will avoid delays. This will be followed by manufacturing, packing, transporting the games to port, and freight shipping. Once the games reach their destination countries, they will be transported to fulfillment centers that will ship the games to you individually. We will communicate with you as we move from one step to the next.

You made it to the bottom of the page? Awesome!

I began development on Dance Card! almost four years ago with a single purpose in mind: to create a game that could be enjoyed by experienced gamers and their non-gaming friends and family alike. The game needed a contemporary aesthetic to feel welcoming to a non-gaming audience, while at the same time maintaining tactical gameplay that would engage players of higher skill levels as well.

Gateway games are an essential part of gaming because they welcome new audiences to the hobby. However, gateway games don't need to be "casual" or "dumbed down." To the contrary, they should include many common elements of hobby gaming in order to prepare newer players for more complex gaming experiences. With personal abilities, asymmetrical gameplay, board-altering cards, and more, Dance Card is a great introduction to many hobby-gaming concepts while also offering more difficulty to seasoned gamers in the form of Challenge cards. The mechanics needed to be solid, and I'm happy to say that, after tons of iteration and over two hundred blind play tests, they are!

But you know what really got peoples' attention? The artwork. Dance Card! didn't really take off until I started posting some of the preliminary artwork in board game groups on social media. There was just something about the theme, and how that was represented in the artwork, that got hundreds of strangers to start chiming in on how the characters should look. I eventually started my own Facebook group for Dance Card! Every aspect of the final art, whether it's the outfits of the characters or the icons on the tokens, has had community input. In some cases, whole characters were added at the suggestion of community members! It was an unreal collaboration between myself and hundreds of people I've never been in the same room with, all working together to make Dance Card! feel as authentic as possible, and I am so grateful to them for it!

Of course, there would be no artwork to praise if not for the worldwide team of illustrators, colorists, and graphic designers who worked on the game. I want to thank Jeremy Anninos and Leda Chung for bringing these characters to life with their wonderful drawings, based on the concept art created by Emmanuel Melo; Steven Tu for his card layouts and graphic design that always put the player experience first; Ellie Kirkner and Nick Nyamka for their vibrant coloring and artwork; and Meaghan Arbital and Omi Bartov for their contributions to various aspects of the game's art. Without them, along with the entire Dance Card! community and my friends and family, who supported me every step of the way, Dance Card! would not have been possible. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart!

Sincerely,

Michael Melkonian

Risks and challenges

We have a well-developed product that we have been dedicated to since 2016. While we have worked out all the details we possibly can at this stage, we are also ready to resolve potential problems. We believe that we have given ourselves enough buffer time, and we will keep you updated and be here to answer any questions you may have. To further reduce risk, we are working with the most well-regarded companies for manufacturing, freight, and fulfillment. We have been committed to transparency at every step of this long-term project and will continue to do so after the conclusion of this campaign.

Refund Policy: We can provide a refund within 14 days of the campaign’s conclusion. After 14 days, we will no longer be able to refund the Kickstarter and processing fees portion of your pledge. Once your copy of the game is being packed for shipment, we can no longer issue a refund. We cannot refund backers who pledged to have custom cards.
