Nor Cal Mythos is a startup game design company. In Carbyne Jungle, we created a game system designed around everything we love in RPGs.
- Story: Carbyne Jungle takes place in an expansive universe filled with fantasy and sci-fi elements, a deep backstory, and a rich setting filled with quest seeds to get games going.
- Options: Our characters are completely customizable. Choose between hundreds of options of backgrounds for millions of possible combinations of abilities.
- Fun: We designed our game engine with three styles of gameplay for players of all skill levels, all of which can be played simultaneously. Beginners can join right into the game using a simple ruleset and not miss out on any of the fun as they learn the Stock or Strategic rules.
- Unique Gameplay: In addition to traditional roleplaying, we have an autorun game for times when no one wants to GM, and a card system to assist in gameplay and in creating random dungeons. Not only that, but we built an amazing combat system that really gets players into the game.
- Game Decks: Our game decks make playing simpler, are used for the Flip N Fight rule set that allows brand new gamers to jump into the RPG, and also for premade games that the entire gaming group can play. Those decks can also then be shuffled in to create random quests for players.

Amazing Gaming Experience
Honestly, we believe we have built the best RPG gaming experience, and we aren't planning on stopping here. Tabletop RPGs are a great way to come together with people you enjoy spending time with and have a good time. Carbyne Jungle is a great game, and we plan on continuing to release content for C.J. and other games as well.
A chance to be part of the game!

Give us a description and he can be added to one of our first expansions: Heroes Liars Thieves, and Fools. Or at the least, you can get yourself a planet! The Carbyne Jungle Core Rules Book will be shipping out in October 2019 for all packages! You can expect the Heroes, Liars Thieves and Fools expansion in June of 2020.
Heroes Liars Thieves, and Fools will be a collection of NPCs, premade characters, special equipment, organizations and locations to enrich any game a GM may want to run. It will also come with a Premade Adventure. Everyone who Purchases a Specialist, Savant, or Nanician, package will get a FREE digital copy of the Heroes, Liars, Thieves and Fools expansion being released next year.

Currently, we are working on our next two expansions: Heroes, Liars, Thieves and Fools and a cosmic horror module that will add new archetypes, creatures, and expand on the horror optional rules
You have a variety of species to choose from ranging from those similar to classic fantasy characters to completely new peoples with distinct cultures and tendencies. We have 12 different character archetypes to choose from, with primal archetypes like the Vatcher, Mystic, and Berzerker who use advanced technology shaped around a tribal culture. High tech classes like the Nanician, Droid Master, or Operator use heavily personalized technology to take the fight forward. We also have three Military based archetypes and the Quantum Channelers who use an advanced magic system to alter the laws of physics. See our website norcalmythos.com for more information.
Advancement is all about your story. Each session, your character grows in a path that you choose. We don't use a level system and there are no forced advancement paths that are chosen for you. You get to decide exactly what you want your character to be.
Advancing doesn't just mean dealing more damage. We have social advancements, group affiliations, and a skill system designed to make conflicts outside of fights just as important as fighting (although there is nothing stopping a party from having a campaign built around random mayhem. Classics never die).
We have a 6 tier system that gives an idea of your current power level. Our system is designed to get you to the 6th tier after about 1 year of weekly games, but you have the option to accelerate the rate or slow it down, depending on your party's preference, and the standard rules have characters max out after about 100 sessions.
3 Styles of Game Play
The Tri-Forge game engine has 3 Modes of Gameplay built in for beginners through advanced players. The engine is designed to have 2 (or even 3) versions of the game allowed to be played at the same time. Getting new players into an established game can be hard, especially with a complex system, but with our game engine, new players can jump in without slowing down the game. As they get the rules down, players can graduate to the harder rulesets, or if they want just keep playing with the standard rules.
The Stock Rules will work for most people who have played role playing games before. The give a rich experience that allows the players to really dive into the gameplay. This is not a basic ruleset though. Most playtesters have compared it to D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder.
For players who enjoy tactical thinking, planning ahead, and more involved combat, the Strategic Ruleset really gives players the opportunity to build specific advantages through forward thinking and detailed combat.
The Flip and Fight System is a stripped down version of the game. While it still has all of the same archetypes, species, and roleplaying options, the bonuses have been stripped down allowing for new players to get a feel for the game without drowning in rules. The game is designed to work with an optional cardset where they can flip a card and find out if they succeeded or failed (But we aren't monsters. We included rules to run the F&F without ever buying another product. The system will work fine with just the Core Rulebook).
We designed Game Card Decks for pre-built campaigns and Auto-Run games. The game cards come with statistics for Targets (think monsters), rooms, and equipment that can make any game simpler to play. Campaign decks have everything needed to go through a campaign, with or without a GM (although nothing truly replaces a good Game Master). These decks can also be mixed and matched for random dungeon games.
Building Characters is one of the best parts of RPGs, but sometimes the process can drag on. With our characters, you can customize your character completely, with literally millions of possible character designs.

Nor Cal Mythos is an Independent Game Design Studio based out of Salinas, California. The three lead designers have degrees and education in silly things such as Literature, Liberal Studies with Human Communication, Math, Business, and much more importantly approximately 70 years of combined experience in tabletop games including world design, mythology building, and relentless tormenting of parties with endless ravenous hordes of monsters seeking their deaths.
We have experience working in education, technology, editing, and business. Even better, we coach sword fighting to 7th graders, write fantasy novels, and have been building game worlds since we were 12, and one of us may or may not be the star of a majestic internet meme (too much fun was involved to be certain, and it was 15 years ago)... and one's a cook!
Carbyne Jungle is not the first system that we have built, but it is the first we are publishing and by far the best work we have ever done. It is the culmination of decades of experience with various systems, tweaking rulesets, and determining what we believe would be the best gaming experience possible.
Outside of the three lead designers, the support crew is made up of friends and family (all gamers), 3 incredibly supportive and patient spouses (also all gamers who have sacrificed far too much ttrpg time for us to get this done), eight beautiful children (combined, not each, thus we are still somewhat sane), three dogs and one cat. So if for nothing else, support our product for our families...or the cat will eat us.
The Carbyne Jungle Core Rules book is just about ready to go and in the copy edit stage, but we aren't planning on stopping there. We have plans, a lot of plans, megalomaniacal super villain plans!!!, And digital versions of each are free to everyone who purchased a digital copy of the Core Rules or a higher package! So tell your friends, because the farther we go, the more you get!

Risks and challenges
Carbyne Jungle is being released at in the beginning of October. The game is complete and in the copy editing process. To keep this going beyond the Core Rules is our goal.
