We are Capybara, a band from Kansas City.
We made a ton of music in 2009.
(If you haven't heard that music yet, go here: http://myspace.com/heycapybara)
Then, we took all that music on tour.
During that tour, we gave our music to lots and lots of people.
By the end of the year, though, we had to get real, full-time jobs again. As a result of that, our music had to be put on the backburner in favor of that whole making-enough-money-to-pay-rent-and-buy-food thing. We were asked frequently, "When is the next Capybara show?" "When is the next Capybara album coming out?" and "Why are you still living with your parents?" But we didn't really have good answers for those questions. About two months ago, however, we realized that if we were going to make music our livelihood, this is the best possible time to do it.

And so: discussions were discussed, plans were planned, strategies were strategized, and goals were...made. Capybara is doing music again in 2011, and we are putting everything we have into it. We believe that a person should be willing to work as hard (or harder) at their art as they are at their job. We are going to make 2011 The Year of the Capybara.

What this means for you is that you will soon have a lot more Capybara music in your iTunes library (or CD collection, or laserdisc stockpile, or whatever). This music might take the form of an album. It might be a series of EPs. It might be something else. But you can be sure that there will be a lot of it. And if you've ever seen Capybara perform live, you know that above all else, we just want you to hear the songs that we write. But in order for us to give you that music, we need a bit of support.

Before our giant 2009 tour, Capybara pressed 1000 copies of our debut album, "Try Brother." We gave away about 750 copies of the album while on tour, because it was (and is) more important to us that you have our music than for us to get a couple of bucks. If you were one of those 750 people, or if you are at all interested in the next phase of Capybara's music-making life, then now would be the absolute perfect time to help us out.

In order to make all this music in 2011, Capybara will be living together, eating together, and, most importantly, recording together. Furthermore, in order to get all this music to you, we will need to put it on something. Doing all of those things requires a little bit of money, and that's where the Kickstarter funds come in.

This project is aimed at those folks who would've been alright with spending a few bucks on our next album or EP. We want you to think of this Kickstarter as just spending those few bucks in advance. That is, by supporting us now, you are guaranteed copies of all of the music we make over the next year.

There are additional rewards, of course, and you can check them out over on the right. Music lessons! Cardboard cutouts of NBA stars! Dinners! Private performances! Personalized Capybara songs! Et cetera!

We have always been humbled by all of the support we've gotten over the last few years. If you've ever come to a Capybara show, if you've ever picked up a copy of our album, if you've ever stopped by our blog or watched our videos, thank you. We appreciate all of you so much. Let's have a fantastic 2011 together. It IS The Year of the Capybara, after all.
