We are Ahoy Tees - a husband and wife team ready to make the world of kid t-shirts a little more fun, weird and nautical because that's what we know living in fun, weird and nautical San Pedro, a town built around the Ports of Los Angeles, California.
As parents to 4 little sailors of our own (ranging in age from 22 months to 16 years!), it's fair to say that we have seen a LOT of kids tees. A good t-shirt is comprised of 2 things: a quality garment and a rad design. We're creating products featuring both of these values.
We've created fun modern t-shirt designs featuring our hand-drawn illustrations inspired by San Pedro and our everyday view of lighthouses, whale watching signs, port cranes, cargo containers, and the steady traffic of fishing boats and cruise ships traveling in and out of the Ports of Los Angeles daily. Each of our designs are the result of our experience in San Pedro and our favorite designs so far are collaborations we've done with our kids.
Ahoy Tees literally started on our kitchen table. Back then we used to hand cut stencils to create t-shirts for our kids. Our tees are now screen printed instead of stenciled but still feature our hand-drawn designs. We print our kid tees on quality American Apparel garments manufactured in Downtown Los Angeles in the largest sewing facility in North America. We do so because these are our favorite shirts for our own kids based on their comfortable fit and sustainability. Our ultimate goal is to eventually produce our own garments with a focus on comfort, fit and environmentally friendly materials.
Once we reach our goal of $1,500 we'll begin printing tees with our first 5 designs and launch www.ahoytees.com. Our first run is limited to 5 designs to ensure we have enough inventory in-stock in a range of sizes to accommodate little sailors of all sizes. We have a long list of other super fun designs, some already print-ready, which will be added to our shop incrementally once we get up and going.
The first 5 designs are ready to go but we can't print without your help. We humbly ask for your support, and to help share our story with your friends. Every bit of support gets us one step closer to our goal of officially launching Ahoy Tees.
We have a growing fan base and at first we considered the idea of taking pre-orders to fund the first print run until a friend mentioned we should check out Kickstarter. We immediately knew Kickstarter was the right way to go because while our project is still essentially a pre-order of our tees, if we don't reach our goal, you don't pay. There is NO risk to backers.
We genuinely appreciate all of our supporters and can't wait to add you to our Ahoy Tees crew! At the end of the campaign we'll send out a survey where you'll select your shirt(s) size(s) and design(s).
ABOUT THE SHIRTS
Our first 5 designs feature our Captain in all his soap bubble pipe glory who was inspired by Christine's obsession with the Sea Captain statues found in tourist gift shops. Also featured is his bearded mermaid First Mate inspired by an after dinner walk along the shore while searching for mermaids with our 4 year old daughter. Our kid tees will be printed on American Apparel tri-blend garments. These are our absolute favorite kid garments in the entire world and you'll find them on our own kids constantly! See more information from the American Apparel website here. Sizes for the launch will range from size 12 months to size 6.
Please note, apparel images are mock-ups, actual products may vary in terms of color, size, positioning etc. Number of inks used in the design and available colors may change during actual production.

ABOUT AHOY TEES
Parents of 4 little sailors, Ahoy Tees co-founders Tito and Christine Hernandez are proudly located in San Pedro within the city of Los Angeles, California where the sea and general weirdness of the city influence everything they do.
Ahoy Tees is super BIG on supporting local business. We purchase our garments from American Apparel located just up the 110 North right here in Los Angeles, and our print shop is a family business run by two brothers located within the Los Angeles county line in the city of Santa Fe Springs.
Once funded, tees will begin shipping within 2 weeks and we'll keep you posted with regular updates on Instagram (@ahoytees) of our progress.
Thank you in advance for considering Ahoy Tees, we're excited to start this new project with you and we promise not to let you down!
Risks and challenges
A potential challenge that Ahoy Tees may face is American Apparel garments being on back-order. The good news is we're local to American Apparel so the delay caused by back-orders is totally not horrific and won't set us back more then a week or two.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
