Designed by Klaus Zoch, this city-building game of auctions is for 2 to 5 players and plays in about 40 minutes. Players will hold auctions for the various building pieces in an effort to build The Estates – the city’s new, upscale development – in a manner that benefits them the most.
The active player will select one of the many wooden building pieces—Floor cube, Rooftop, Building Permit, Mayor, or Cancel cube—and hold an auction for it. Each of the other players may bid once for the chosen building piece or pass. Once the highest bidder is determined, the auctioneer has two options:
A. The auctioneer gives the chosen piece to the highest bidder who then pays their bid to the auctioneer
B. The auctioneer keeps the chosen piece and pays the highest bid to the highest bidder
The player who purchased the building piece must then place it in The Estates. The game ends as soon as 2 rows of buildings are completed or if it is impossible to complete any more buildings. Players will then earn positive or negative points based on where their building is located within The Estates.
Heavy Cardboard Playthrough Video
This video introduces you to The Estates and details how to play the game. Then, 2 games are played back to back, followed up with a round table discussion of the experience. Enjoy!
At Capstone Games, one of our values is to provide you with the best possible components in our games. The Estates contains many large wooden pieces that are both custom shaped and contain silk-screened images that make the game colorblind-friendly! The features we want to include in The Estates far exceed our capability to bring this game to market using our traditional straight-to-retail method. Kickstarter is an amazing platform to bring games to life, and we are excited to have you take part in our Kickstarter project! Together, we can join forces to make The Estates and give it the beautiful production it deserves.
If you are interested in purchasing more than one game, add $49 USD per additional game. There is no extra shipping charge for multiple copies. One shipping address per pledge (we cannot split a pledge of multiple copies to different addresses).
We have partnered with fulfillment centers in the above regions (EU, USA, Canada, and Australia) to reduce your shipping costs as much as possible. This includes ensuring you don’t pay VAT for The Estates in the above regions. As the shipments depart the manufacturing facility and begin their journey to the fulfillment centers, some locations will receive and be ready to ship to backers sooner than others. This is done so that you can enjoy your copy of The Estates as soon as possible.
Friendly Local Game Stores are an important factor in this hobby. We are offering eligible brick and mortar retailers the opportunity to take part in this project through The Retailer pledge level.
The Retailer pledge is a $60 deposit applied towards your total carton order of The Estates, to a maximum of 4 cartons. Each carton contains 6 copies of The Estates. The pledge manager will be used to collect the remaining funds due for your order, including shipping. The Retailer pledge level will be fulfilled at the same time as the other levels.
Capstone Games will verify retailer eligibility before fulfilling retail pledges.
Risks and challenges
Capstone Games has produced 10 games since its inception in 2015. We are partnered with professionals for the manufacturing, shipping, and fulfillment of The Estates. We take our business very seriously and will be fully transparent with you throughout the life of this project. We are experienced in the possible delays that can happen at the factory and during shipping. If there are delays of any kind, they will be communicated to you immediately.
The artwork for The Estates is complete with only the final formatting to the manufacturers specifications remaining. We will deliver all files to the to the manufacturer at the end of May for product delivery to you in October.
