About this project
Your contribution to this campaign will capitalize the first production run of our Dorys. An investment of $36,000 will pay for a minimum order of 1000 pairs, covering the materials, production, shipping costs, and customs--and help us give a little back to our fantastic supporters.
Cape Dory Rigging came to life in 2011 when founder Shane Pisko built the first prototype of the Boat Shoe Sandal, the Dory. The original Dory was cobbled together out of used sandals and an old purse, and while crude in construction it was the foundational design for a quality, comfortable, and fresh new footwear design.
Five years and dozens of prototypes later, Cape Dory Rigging is ready to share the Dory with the world--and give everyone the chance to enjoy this comfortable and stylish hybrid.
Comfort and Style For All
We want everyone to be able to enjoy the comfort and style of our Dorys. So now is your chance to get our Dorys for an incredible introductory price of $50 limited to 200 pairs. Once that first level is sold out we have an additional level at $55 also limited to 200 pairs. As well, we have 600 pairs available at our $65 price. If you want to order them for the whole family, we have some great bundles which get you multiple pairs.
With your backing, Cape Dory Rigging will have the support we need to supply Dorys all over the world because anywhere there is a sandy beach or a sun-bleached dock, Dorys ought to be close by.

What Our Customers Say
"The neoprene like fabric sleeve makes these sandals...the comfort is ideal. White soles meet the needs of any sailor, cork insoles soothe my Birkenstock-ish hippie spirit and the canvas/sail clothish uppers are true to a boat shoe!" --Andrea (NH)

We use high quality materials in the production of our Dorys.
- Heavy canvas provides shape and texture to the upper.
- Genuine leather provides a great look and weathers nicely over time
- A cork and latex footbed provides comfort, and also means these sandals float!
- Our EVA sole material supports the footbed and ensures even more comfort.
- The inner lining is a swimsuit like material similar to spandex, nylon or Lycra. It quickly dries and provides incredible comfort.
Sharing is Caring

About the Team
Shane Pisko, Founder of Cape Dory Rigging and designer of the Dory grew up one part by the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey and one part in the South Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia. He attended Ithaca College where he studied Advertising, Branding, and Marketing. In the summer of 2011, Shane developed the very first prototype of his idea, the Dory, cobbled together from old shoes and sandals laying around. Over the past 5 years, Shane has worked to refine the design and source materials with the aide of Cape Dory Rigging’s manufacturing partner in Portugal.
Tom W Bonner is a Virginia-born, Philadelphia-based project manager and strategic planning consultant, specializing in work that supports creative organizations. He received a bachelor’s degree in directing from Marymount Manhattan College and a Master’s Degree in Arts Administration from Drexel University. After chatting with Shane about his plans for Cape Dory Rigging for about five years, Tom decided to jump in and take a more active role with the project in the summer of 2016 and is thrilled to be helping guide the company into its first major launch.

Risks and challenges
Our most significant concerns are related to potential delays in manufacturing following the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign.
Our manufacturing partners work with multiple companies, and the production of an order may be impacted by timing and volume. To address this concern, we have timed this Kickstarter campaign during a normally slow time for our partners, and expect that our order will go into production immediately.
It is possible that previously identified suppliers may not be able to readily provide materials for production. If this is the case, we have identified alternative suppliers and are confident that our materials will be available. As the campaign gains momentum, our team will identify our ideal suppliers, based on volume, to ensure that we can proceed with fulfillment at the conclusion of the campaign.
Finally, shipping from Europe to the United States to deliver the product may be impacted by the volume of the order.
The journey from our first prototype to presenting our product to you has been long and educational, and we are committed to doing everything in our power to make sure you receive a high-quality product in a timely fashion. This is Cape Dory Rigging’s promise to you, and we look forward to having you as a customer long after the conclusion of this funding campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
