Hi everybody, we're back :)
To our friends and backers, we've been together long enough that we can somewhat skip the intro. Some of you have been with us for the past 5 years, 7 product launches and we cannot, would not, should not be here without you. I know we say that a lot but we really do mean it. We are immensely grateful — as designers, as product developers, as believers in a more fun and creative world — and we sure plan to keep going as long as you guys keep loving the things we make.
For the first time, we are launching a more mass-oriented, retail-ready product, but of course with Candylab DNA (it's better that way). And you get to watch and see how this gets made! This story is a little different than our usual, but still leads to the cool, innovative toys that you've come to expect from us.
You know we do, and you do too. That's why we think you'll be glad to hear the seed of this idea: Diecast little cars are a staple of every kid's bedroom and toy chest, making frequent appearances on adult shelves, toy collection and as fun office decor too. What bugs us is that like any successful, long-running product, they've become commoditized.
Today you can buy tiny 2-inch long diecast toy cars for a buck at virtually any gas station. Of course, it's not the price that bugs us the most, it's the simple fact that the joy that comes with matchbox cars is gone. Those little guys are so often tossed around and forgotten, the magic disappears. This mass invasion is a far cry from the 1950's when they were carefully crafted, and came in a box resembling a box of matches. Don't even get us started on plastic "diecast-style" cars.
...is to provide a bit of an antidote to that while still doing what we do best: wooden toy cars. So we set out to design a "Wooden Diecast" car. It sounds really simple but we banged our heads about for 2 years to be able to do this — make a cute, cartoonishly-proportioned wooden body with fun, splashy colors on a custom-designed diecast base. Screw it all together carefully, give it an adorable name and sell it for single digit dollars in the spirit of matchbox cars. Then we made more of them. And now we're releasing it into the wild!
But here we are, and here they are! Countless hours, work, prototypes, scale studies, engineering, and color studies, we have the finished products in hand — beech wood body, alloy diecast base, custom engineered wood screw, metallic foil paint accents and the coolest packaging we could come up with.
Now, for the good part.
We came up with the best combo packs we could imagine, and it's pretty straightforward. There are 6 designs total, and we packed them in some common sense combinations. All are at affordable price points, because no one is against affordable, but great.
Also, for the first time ever, Candylab announces... immediate fulfillment! Unlike our previous campaigns, every detail about these little guys have been finalized and ready to go which means they will begin the fulfillment process as soon as the campaign ends. And that means they're guaranteed to arrive in time for the holidays.
We're so sure of ourselves this time, we even made a giant red banner:
(For those of you who are waiting on your Beasts, fret not — they'll be there sooner than you think.)
** Please note, the Dream Come True reward is limited to our existing body styles and cabins. You can mismatch if you would like! The paint coat and decals are all up to you - have fun with it.
Want Multiple Rewards? This go-around we will not be working through Backerkit post-campaign. That being said, we will not be allowing the act of combining rewards. If you have a super specific request send us a quick email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see what we can do!
Domestic Backers: Starting with the Double Up reward we will be offering F-R-E-E shipping within the US. Yes, you read that correctly, free shipping!
International Backers: If you haven't noticed already we are only offering international shipping starting with the All Aboard reward. We know, it's really expensive for you international folks. We strictly charge what postage actually costs and pay for warehousing, shipping cartons, labeling and on from the general overhead remaining. That is what carriers charge these days.
All international shipments are subject to duties, taxes and clearing fees which you are responsible for paying - your pledges are without sales-tax or VAT. All Kickstarter rewards will be considered gifts, however, most countries will assess duties/taxes and in certain countries the carrier will pre-pay the duties and taxes and bill you later. If you refuse delivery, your package will be abandoned. Once abandoned, we can’t ship another package to you or issue a refund. Filling out your shipping address correctly is very important. A wrong address and package sent back will incur shipping charges back to USA on our account. A wrong address and package sent back will incur shipping charges back to USA on our account. If your parcel sits unclaimed and / or you have not answered our increasingly alarmed emails, there is a chance it will be sent back, or abandoned at destination. We would not be able to resend your reward nor refund you in such a situation. Risks and challenges
We are on our 8th Campaign. While we typically say nothing can go wrong, but it may, this time is different. Based on longstanding relationships with our suppliers, we have already completed tooling and production is well underway with little to no advance payments. We are confident that once the modest goal of this campaign is funded, we can safely deliver your rewards on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
