UPDATED GOAL: Thanks to the incredible amount of support I received from all over the world, I reached my first goal of $2500 in only 12-hours. Now I have my sights set on even bigger things and need your support. I am still promoting my campaign every day to raise awareness about my books and to raise money towards publishing more copies once completed. Pledge now for a limited edition reward.
Hi! I’m Sean Michael Hayes and my goal is to launch my career as an author by completing the three books I've already written. Writing is something I have always loved, however the story of an aspiring, unknown writer is not always glamorous. That is why I need your support!
What are my books all about?
●Book #1 - “Five Weeks in the Amazon” is a story of self discovery I hope will inspire others. Leaving my entire life behind, I went alone to Peru to live with a Shaman in search of answers about life. What I ended up discovering was myself.
●Book #2 - “Beyond Ataraxia” is a philosophical discussion on life, happiness, love, suffering, the soul, and many other topics that are perpetually relevant to the human condition. I analyze my own perception of life and compare it to specific works of great philosophers. Of all three, this is the book I am most proud of.
●Book #3 - “Zenega” is a collection of my favorite poems that were written throughout my twenties in different countries all over the word. Some are cheerful and optimistic and others are as cold and dark as the places they came from. You can learn more about them by heading to my site CanadianHayes.com.
What stage are the books at?
I have completed drafts for all three books totalling over 800 pages. My project, therefore, focuses on editing, revising and transforming all three books for publishing.
Why I need your support.
I need your support because I am doing this all myself. I am following my dream and standing up against the social norms to become a self-published author. It may sound courageous, but even courage needs fuel, and even writers need more than bagels and coffee to make great books.
Facts about me that relate to my goal:
●I have a one way ticket to Bogota, Colombia on January 15th, 2014 and my only goal is to go live cheaply and finish my books, be sure to follow my website CanadianHayes.com to follow my progress.
●I have written articles for multiple print magazines, having to do with skateboarding or sports (I used to be a professional skateboarder).
●I have a writing coach who told me after her first reading of “Beyond Ataraxia” I should be prepared to be going on a book tour. If that is her first impression of my first draft, I can’t wait to finish it and see what other people think.
Why is my deadline June 9th?
I have always been a writer, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I started to seriously consider that I could make it a reality if I really tried. I always had a goal of finishing my book by the time I was 30. However as my 30th birthday came and went last June 9th, I was dismayed I hadn't accomplished what I had intended to do. Then I realized finishing my books by the time I was 30 meant I could finish anytime I was 30, not just the first before my 30th birthday! I have doubled my efforts since then and now I am confidently approaching my deadline with not one, but three books! Take that 30 years of life!
My Creative Partners:
I am lucky enough to be friends with some of the most talented and creative people in the world and have them helping me with the creative needs of a project like this. Check out links to their work below.
●Brandon Lomax is one of my closest friends and his creativity in the fine arts is one of the biggest inspirations that I have, everyday.
●Dean Bradshaw is by far one of the most talented people to ever touch a camera. His ability to transform the world around us into a frozen moment of emotion is what I try to do with my writing.
●Duncan Barnes is a renowned videographer and film producer. He not only made my video for this campaign, but he also is the first person I call when I want to go on a local adventure. Thanks Duncs! You rock!
●The graphic design for my projects will be done by Dersu Rhodes and my updated website will be designed by Cindy Santini, both of which are equally as amazing at what they do.
●I could continue about all the other supportive friends I have, but these are my creative partners because I want my books to become as great as the writing I fill them with.
Plans to Publish:
When I return from South America in a few short months, I will have finished the final edit of my three drafts. June 9th, 2014 is the official wrap-up party in Los Angeles and from there my plan is to self-publish. If you were generous enough to pledge for any of the rewards that included eBook versions, these will be sent out in September 13th, 2014. If you backed a reward and got a signed copy of the Paperback, they will be released December 13th, 2014.
If I am fortunate enough to surpass my goal I will keep campaigning to raise as much money as possible. Anything beyond $2500 will be put directly into the publishing, marketing and promoting my books.

Risks and challenges
1 - I do NOT raise enough money to reach my Kickstarter goal and I end up getting nothing. Which means I will have to keep finding other ways support me as I try to finish my books in South America.
2 - I DO raise enough money to reach my Kickstarter goal, and I get to finish my books, but when they are done nobody likes them or wants to read them.
The difference between the two is that one is up to me and one is up to you. I will do my best to deliver three amazing books and what you can do is become one of my first true fans by pledging to my campaign now.
