Buzzcards™ - Animated Cards With Character
It started with Campuppet™ few years ago as a simple idea. My brother, Mark, and I wanted to cr"eate an easy way for anyone to express themselves using basic materials. I designed a mechanism that would allow people to cut out puppets to be used in front of webcams or phone cameras. My brother, who is a great designer and illustrator, created a whole world of creatures and characters. We spent a lot of time designing, setting up and marketing a website for Campuppet kits.
Go look, it’s still there. I’ll wait. www.campuppet.com
Whoever said “If you build it, they will come”, lied.
After a couple years of trying to market Campuppet Kits, I created a clever little business card for myself. It was simple, stupid really. My brother did up a caricature of me and I created a way of making my mouth move on the front and have my company info on the back. I even got a patent pending on it.
The cards worked great. Too great. When I met with people to discuss our website, I handed them my card and they would play with it all through our meetings, talking in silly voices. It didn’t help my sales. It was kind of like, when you have a dog and you point at something you want them to look at, but all they do is stare at the end of your finger and wag their tails.
So, that’s what leads me here today. I am not going to fight it.
I am introducing Buzzcards - Animated Cards With Character
I tell my wife, who is being very patient with me, “It’s so stupid, it’s gotta work™”.
She has her doubts.
I hope you wag your tail a little. Have fun.
The pledges from the campaign will go towards developing the tools and materials to produce Buzzcard's in a much greater volume.
Right now I am cutting cards by hand and I am really exhausted!
So, here's what the pledges will be used for:
- Artists work.
- Cost of paper
- Creation of Die Cuts (to precut the cards)
- Digital printing of the cards and other material
- Handling, postage and shipping supplies
I don't see any reason for any delays, other than a few paper cuts, the creation process is pretty simple.
We are going to try hard to get the cards out to everyone before the national political conventions, which start in the middle of July. I really want to see Buzzcards used on the convention floors!
The personal Buzzcards that we are offering, will take longer to produce because we will need to collect photos and information from the people pledging for them and then the artists will need to do their magic. Once the art has been created and approved, getting the custom cards out to everyone should be pretty quick.
Risks and challenges
This is a simple project and should be fairly risk free.
Risks that we might encounter are:
Paper cuts when stuffing envelopes.
We will suck it up and have lots of bandaids ready.
Delays in production
(I've allowed more time than necessary in anticipation of delays so you should hopefully receive your card sets either before or by the date stated)
For the most part, printing of the cards will be done digitally (Xerox) and I have connected with several local printers, just in case of any problems.
The personal card sets delivery time might be affected by delays in getting the necessary photos, information and approval from people.
Damaged in the mail
(These are not fragile items so I'm not expecting this to be an issue, never the less these will be shipped carefully to ensure they get to you in tip-top condition)
