Sorry to hear it didn't make it. Since seeing this every time I'm juggling lenses I think of this. Best of luck in your next idea.
good luck with the design updates and I hope it works out next time! FYI, two photog friends said they found it very interesting but one has a non-supported camera brand and the other said it didn't help enough with juggling lenses and such. Just some feedback for your design updates, as I think those two comments could be addressed somewhat easily.
This is a product that needs to get out...I was swapping between my 11-16mm 2.8 and 35mm 1.8 the other day...very tedious! I'd happily buy one at twice my pledged amount. It'd go great on the BlackRapid!
Arg. I need this! Thought it a great idea. Bring it back stronger and bigger if you can. Best of luck. You have a good idea. Maybe it was timing, maybe minimum production cost, I can't say but I do know that handling the caps have always been way too awkward and this woes ingenious.
Darn. I really, really, wanted some of these... donate people!
If this project doesn't make it I would echo Robert's recommendation of a way to lock the cap onto the "backer capper" so that you don't lose your lens cap when walking around.
4 days to go, everyone share this please :(
Thanks Thomas- please help us spread the word!
I really hope more people back this. Anyone with more than one lens knows how extremely helpful this device will be. I own two lowepro slingshot bags as well as two rapid straps, and it is still difficult to change a lens quickly without handing it off to someone to hold onto.
Sorry John, the numbers speak for themselves. After same amount of time in each section, 50% of supporters came after seeing in Technology section. 1% from Design section. We gave it a shot, but it didn't work out.
Doesn't make any sense. No projects under Technology's "Most Successful" have been camera equipment. Under Design's "Most successful" a number are specifically focused on cameras and NONE of them half as interesting as yours. See below:
Capture Camera Clip System by Peter Dering
Geode from iCache!
EZ-Steady- iPhone, DSLR, GoPro Camera Stabilizer
C-Loop - Camera Strap Mount Solution
I changed our project back to the technology section. We were getting a ton more hits there.
Jo- Love that comment! Exactly what we have been hearing from people after they hear about our product.
I showed this to the bloke a few days ago and he poo pooed the idea, saying he just uses his bag to hold things. Along came Friday evening when he went out on his own, he didn't have me with him to help, and he wasn't able to put his bag down because the ground was wet. He came back and said how difficult it was to change lenses, and how the backer cappers might be a good idea!
Thanks both of you for the comments, we are investigating both of those ideas.
Just backed this project. This is a great idea!
If there were some way that you could attach a "Backer Capper" lock to previously owned lens caps, this would be an even more attractive product.
I really like this idea, and have signed up as a backer. But the one thing I'd really like to see added is a better way of locking the lens caps on, similar to how it locks on to the camera body. I fear that they might come undone while walking around. I feel like I'd be willing to pay at least twice as much for this insurance. Otherwise, I'll only be able to use these on my smaller, lighter and cheaper lenses.
By the way, I see this as the perfect companion for another former kickstarter project, the " Capture® Camera Clip System by Peak Design". With these two combined, and some pockets for your extra batteries and memory cards, I feel like you won't need a bag at all. :)
It's interesting to see the number variations between the Canon version and Nikon version of the Backer Capper. For those that did not read the FAQ, we will be following up these two lines with other camera mounts if the project succeeds.
@ John Magni- Thanks for the comment. I moved our project to the Design area on Kickstarter per your suggestion (I think this is what you meant by the product section since I can't find a product section otherwise).
This is awesome. I think you should move to the PRODUCT section of Kickstarter. I bet this will help you meet your goal. (I, for instance, always look at the Product section, but rarely look at the Technology section.)
@Kevin Thompson: You dont need size markings, its the lens tail cap, not the front cap.
Angel- We only started a week ago and have not received much press yet. Feel free to share with your friends.
Kevin- not sure what you mean by a silk screen. Can you send us a link?
Great Idea!! Will you also be adding a lens size silk screen to the cap? i.e. 50mm, 24-70mm, etc.
When did this start? because I can't believe how theres only 144 backers. This is actually useful for quick lens changes.
Great idea, another innovative, simple camera solution.
This is a brilliant idea. Wow. I'm off to share this on some photography forums.
I could use this. Simple as that. Hope this product gets launched. There's ALWAYS room for more good ideas...
