EXCELLENCE IN CRAFTSMANSHIP AND DESIGN
Caliper Timepieces harken back to the era of precision instrumentation - when the inner mechanics of our most important tools and devices were crafted for accuracy, dependability and longevity. Caliper Timepieces are a tribute to all that came before the planned obsolescence of the consumer age.
They don't just mark time - they express values.
The Caliper View
A MEASURE OF SOPHISTICATION
The Caliper View is a precision-crafted mechanical timepiece with a self-winding movement that highlights the intricate inner details through glass surfaces on both the front and back.
Discerning and distinctive
QUALITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD
The Caliper View features a high quality case, milled from surgical-grade, 316L steel, and sapphire scratch-resistant glass on the front and back.
The movement is the Japanese-made Miyota 82S0. It is purely mechanical, requires no battery and will wind automatically when worn (it can also be wound conventionally).
The View’s glass face is perhaps its most distinctive design feature, highlighting the movement from the front and back. It also allowed us to offer a choice of two graphic designs over the movement. The didactic version labels key components of the inner workings. The dot-screen version creates a visual separation between the face and the works.
The graphic elements, glass watch face and the reflective nature of the movement cause the appearance of the View to vary in different light conditions. To appreciate the visual variety, take a look at our Instagram page.

"The Caliper View watch offers a tightly designed modern automatic watch that should make every architect and engineer cry. This is a new watch company taking its namesake from the tools used to measure distances between two sides of an object. I got to wear the prototypes to see how they measure up. Read on for my impressions!"

THE CALIPER VIEW – CHOOSE YOUR STYLE
The case and band are available in black or steel. The chapter ring (the dial with the markings and numbers) on the steel version is available in black or steel. The glass watch face is available in three versions: the didactic (which labels key components of the inner workings); the dot-screen (which creates a visual separation between the face and the works). As a third option, you can choose clear glass.
Our stretch goals have greatly increase the number of available models. The alternate second hand colour increases the number of versions shown above to twenty four. After the end of the campaign, we will reduce the number of design options to the most popular ones. The retail version will not have this full range of options. Only during this campaign can you tailor your watch to your exact preferences!
We have set 'stretch goals' for this project. These are funding goals beyond our minimum funding target. If we surpass these goals, we'll be able to offer more to our backers.
Stretch Goal #1 at $40,000 - REACHED!
If we surpass $40,000 in funding, we will offer our backers an additional colour option for the second hand. In addition to orange, there will be a blue choice like this:
Stretch Goal #2 at $50,000 - REACHED!
If we surpass $50,000 in funding, backers will have an additional case and chapter ring combination to choose from: models D1 and D2 will be made available.
Leather Band Add-On
If you prefer the look and feel of a leather band over steel mesh, we've got a special offer for you. For $40 extra we will include a high quality Italian band in brown or black. This is a very nice band that would retail for approximately $70. to get a leather band with your watch in addition to the steel option, add $40 to your pledge.
The packaging will be very simple and clean. It will be a white box with embossed text. The word 'caliper' will be embossed outward (convex) and the word 'VIEW' will be concave.
The idea is to focus attention on the watch. The packaging fades into the background.
Since our early bird deals are now sold out, the best deal is a double. If you can find a friend to split this reward with you, you'll both get a deal equal to the early bird singles!
And now, If you select the $600 Double pledge, we will cover shipping costs anywhere in the world!
Designing a timepiece can't be a blank slate. Wrist watches have a rich history. Everyone knows what a watch 'is' and carries in their mind an expectation of form and function. If it's to be worn on the wrist and seen with the eyes, there's a fairly narrow band of physical formats that will work.
Of course, there are designers who have set out to 'break the mold' of our expectations. We've taken a different approach - one of subtlety. Our goal is to follow conventions but then to gently play with them. Our first design, the View, is at first glance ordinary. The dial is round; there's a chapter ring with numbers around the edge.
But then you discover more. On the dot-screen version, you notice that the face is not solid, you see a hint of motion within. Now you're engaged, you have to get a closer look to see how this works! Our didactic version has a more obvious transparent face, but it might take you a while to discover the text and call-outs. You'll need to get up-close to see what's going on here.
The Caliper View is elegant rather than flashy. It's a design that becomes more interesting the closer you look. The View rewards your attention.

Three Year Warranty
We have completed the design phase for the Caliper View and we have several working prototypes. We are ready to start a production run as soon as we receive funding. We anticipate that manufacturing will take approximately ninety days.
Once manufacturing is complete, we'll conduct a rigorous quality control process here in Canada. We've engaged a third party expert to inspect and calibrate each and every watch. Every timepiece will include a signed certificate of inspection, testing and calibration. We won't ship to you until we are completely satisfied that your watch is perfect!
The timeline shown here is conservative. We've put in some extra time to collect surveys and to ensure quality. It is possible that we will be able to ship earlier than August - we will keep our backers posted with the latest news, updates and revised schedule!
We anticipate shipping in August 2016.
Risks and challenges
The design phase for this project is complete and several prototypes have been created. Our production lead times are realistic and achievable. If we encounter delays due to fabrication, assembly, quality control or shipping, we will update our backers and post all details to our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
