Short Order Heroes: Locations
A deck of 54 cards illustrated by Eleanor Ferron. A fast way to generate unique and interesting locations for your role-playing games. Draw two location traits to find a ruined, holy tower or a monolithic, arcane castle.
An instruction sheet will include a few helpful charts to help you determine the base type of the location. Whether you need to fill out a fantasy wilderness area, a modern urban environment, or an interstellar space sector, Short Order Heroes: Locations will help.
Short Order Heroes
Short Order Heroes is a rules light game designed for easy role-playing. It is a deck of 108 cards that can also be used for spontaneous NPC generation in any RPG.
How it Works In a word: fast. Each card has a picture, an adjective, and a number. To create a new character, draw some cards from the deck, depending on how fleshed-out you want the character to be -- we recommend 3 for PCs, down to 1 for throw-away NPCs. The adjectives describe what makes your character unusual. Fill in the details and off you go. To resolve a conflict, first set a target number or draw one randomly from the deck -- higher is harder. Then draw a card. The number on the card tells you whether the action succeeded, the adjective gives some color to how, and the picture provides added inspiration. To enhance other games, the cards can quickly add personality to otherwise bland encounters -- "Thug #2" is now "The unnerving thug", the barmaid is complicated, and more. Great for tavern trawling or adding a bit of local color.
With Short Order Heroes, you spend less time fiddling with the rules and more time telling the story. Character creation and conflict resolution take seconds, and instantly fill your game world with color and flair. Short Order Heroes is an entire role-playing game in a pack of cards. It's perfect for one-shot adventures where you don't want to spend all night making characters and miss playing the game.
Short Order Heroes: Plot Pack
Our first expansion is at the printer for an expected summer release. The Plot Pack is three decks, each with 36 unique cards to add depth and color to any role playing game.
Motivations: what makes this character tick? Are they looking for revenge, or driven by grief? Surprising Events can set the theme of an adventure, or add unexpected twists to your game. Relationships build connections between characters, adding new dimensions and role-playing opportunities. Short Order Heroes: Plot Pack works great with the original Short Order Heroes, or with any RPG. There are even alternate rules for using it as a standalone party game or a story prompt generator.
With the Plot Pack in your game bag, you’ll always have an adventure hook ready to go.
For an additional $5, you can get five calico cat dice.
The basic pledge levels are priced for a single shipment. This means if you are getting all of the decks, you'll get a single package once the Genre Pack is finished. If you'd like to get some of the things quicker, you can add an additional $5 domestic and $10 international to receive two shipments.
Risks and challenges
We learned a lot from our last Kickstarter. We have a better idea of the overall costs and time required to produce a deck. With any creative endeavor there is the possibility of delays, but we'll keep you informed as progress is being made.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
