With a day to spare, Alter-Life is 100% Kickstarter funded! Thank you all of you wonderful backers for keeping this dream alive.
"And no-one can ever know if it's going to work, but if you try then you might get your happy ending." Jarvis Cocker
3/14 - 75% and Counting!
We had a great weekend! With just over two days let, the goal is easily within our reach. Thank you all for the support so far. Keep spreading the word and let's get this comic book made!
3/13 - Not Over Yet...
The hourly countdown has begun. 50% seems like a lot to get in a couple days, but it's very possible. There are still great commission available from Katrina Kunstmann, and plenty of awesome variant covers to choose from!
$5,500 = WARHEAD/Alter-Life Stickers
IF and WHEN we hit $5,500 ALL backers will get a digital copy of ALL 5 of the issues of WARHEAD, this means you are potentially getting 6 digital issues for $5. Anyone who pledges at or above the $10 level will also get an Alter-Life Logo Sticker. (Sorry $5 backers, can't ship you a sticker unless you bump up to $10)
WARHEAD is a story about Adam, a graffiti artist in London, England with a giant, acid green atom bomb for a head. It's a surrealistic slice of life with a bit more stirring below the surface which begs the question of whether or not all of the animal and object headed characters are figments in Adam's mind.
You can check out more about WARHEAD here: warheadcomic.tumblr.com
$7,000 = 2 Sketch Cards
If we make it to $7,000 everyone who pledged $10 or more will also get a pair of sketch card prints of random panels from Alter-Life Issue #1.
$10,000 = First 5 Pages of Issue #2
If we we are truly amazing and hit $10,000, we will be adding a 5-6 page preview of Issue #2 to the end of Issue #1. That makes this 32 page comic into 38 pages of glorious Kunstmann artwork.
As mentioned in the video, there are two goals to this campaign. The first, and most important, is simply to make an awesome comic. I have been told that the best way to get a comic book made is to just go out and do it. I am a writer, not an artist, so the artwork and the production of the comics themselves will be covered by the funding acquired from this Kickstarter.
The second goal is to build an audience for Alter-Life while simultaneously getting a tangible example of my comic writing. This issue of Alter-Life is meant to kick off a series of comics I hope to bring to a Kickstarter audience, but it will also be used to present my writing style to various comic book publishers. I will be seeking a future publishing home for this and many other comics in due time, but Kickstarter funding will allow me to show comic fans and professionals that I have unique and compelling stories to tell.
So, by backing Alter-Life, you not only getting an awesome 32 page beginning to a new, Limited comic series, you are helping a writer find a voice in the vast, competitive world of comic books.
ALL OR NOTHING!
Only if the goal is met, will the comic be made. It's all or nothing, so if you back the comic, make sure you share it with your friends and get them to come check it out too! Nothing is charged to the backers until the end of a successful campaign.
Issue #1 of Alter-Life will be 32 pages of full color comic glory. Digital and physical versions of the issue will be available. Any reward you pick automatically gets you the PDF version of the comic, and will be emailed to you prior to the printing and shipping of physical copies. Any reward other than DIGITAL ONLY also gets you a physical copy of Issue #1 with the official cover.
Each backer reward shows exactly what you are getting, so make sure you get all the covers you want. You can get 1, 2, or all 3 of the variants in a bundle. Get all variant covers of the comic and share them with your friends, or just keep them all for yourself! Variant covers are pictured below.
Backers may choose whichever Cover they would like for any reward that includes a "Mini Poster of Cover."
PLEDGE INCREASE BONUS REWARD
I will be sending personalized, Signed and Personalized Postcard Prints to anyone who has pledged or pledges to Alter-Life AND increases their pledge amount by any value before the end of the Kickstarter on March 16th.
You get the postcard no matter how much you increase. Any amount helps! You only get the postcard if you back the project before the end of the day on March 14th AND INCREASE YOUR PLEDGE by 7:30 a.m. On March 16th.
Once the art is complete, I will choose my favorite panel, and it will be printed, signed, and sent to your door!!

Alter-Life is the story of a man's tragic life that is forever changed when he discovers he can enter his parallel existences.
It’s been a rough few years. Trapped in a dead-end customer service rep job, his wife and child recently killed in an accident, Jake decides that he is just going to end it all.
On that day, at the very time and place he decides to kill himself, he is presented with a chance to bring meaning to his existence. Just as this meaning becomes clear, Jake is killed. The world goes black...
Suddenly, he finds himself standing at the very place and time he was before he died. Everything is different, but everything's the same. This discovery will send him on quest for the truth about his past and the source of his new found abilities.
This is a tale of love and redemption. An everyman learning to live with past regrets and use his newfound power to bring meaning to his existences. Jake has the chance to find the perfect existence, become a hero, or sink to the lowest depths of humanity.
Throughout his quest to recover his lost family, he will find that the world he lives in is not what it seems. A startling discovery will turn everything upside-down and send him on a perilous journey for the truth.
Jake: 32 y/o unsuccessful writer and customer service rep. He always dreamed of doing something that could have real meaning to people. Had a child with his wife when he was 25. He has been stuck in a dead-end job because of the need for income. Always wanted to be a writer but never got around to it. His wife and child were killed when he was 30.
Deborah: 33 y/o working mother. Jacob’s wife and best friend. She was very practical and business savvy. The breadwinner of the family and she let Jake know it all the time.
Audrey: 7 y/o daughter of Jacob and Deborah. Jake's pride and joy, Smart for her age and wise beyond her years. Died in the same incident that killed Deborah.
Bruce: Jacob’s best friend, mid 30’s. He has the opposite life as Jake. Three kids, job he loves, even a house with a picket fence. He works for the same company as Jake. They met years ago. He moved up and did well in the company, while Jake chased his dreams and kept a position with little responsibility. He lost touch with Jake after the accident.
ALTER-LIFE: A mystery only to be revealed through Jacob's quest for the truth.
With artwork, coloring, and lettering by Katrina E. Kunstmann, the visual style of Alter-Life is inspired by 100 Bullets, but Katrina makes it her own with wonderful Character design and simple but beautiful details.

There are three variant covers created EXCLUSIVELY for this Kickstarter. This will be the only time to get the variants, so make sure you grab them while you can!
Variant #1 is provided by the extremely talented, George Patsouras. You can take a look at his other artwork at http://www.cgmythology.com.
Variant #2 will be provided by Chicago artist Blake Brady. You can take a look at his other art at http://www.blakebradyartwork.com.
Variant #3 is coming from across the pond. Enzo Put is new to the scene, but has drawn up a spectacular cover in the style of 100 Bullets. His portfolio is a work in progress, but you can check it out at http://enzoput.weebly.com.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
The beauty of using Kickstarter is that there are no investors to repay. Most of the cost of making Alter-Life is paying the artists, printing, and shipping. There is no plan in profit for the Creator.
Starving artists need to eat, so they get paid for their time and effort. Since I am only the creator and writer, I need to collaborate with artists to get quality images to go with my words. Any surplus in funding will either be used to improve the quality of Issue #1 or help start progress on artwork for Issue #2.
As you can see, kickstarting comes with a price tag. Concept art needs as well as marketing costs can add up fast!

Risks and challenges
Although I have helped run a Kickstarter project before, this is my first attempt at a Comic Book Kickstarter and my introduction into the work of writing comics. The most difficult challenge I foresee is the process of printing and shipping all of the backer's goodies in a timely fashion and on budget. I know people want to see a quality product for their money, so I am determined to get a great comic into all of your hands as quickly as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
