YAHOOO!! The initial goal has been reached! THANK YOU to everyone who has pledged so far. Here is a silly video:
The first goal of $10,000 was reached in 15 days. Holy bejeebles! Thank you for believing in me! I am so fired up to make this record, and now that it is a done deal, I would like to introduce a couple of stretch goals to make it the best record it can be! Here are my plans for the extra money we raise during the remainder of the campaign:
-Stretch Goal #1 - $11,000: I will fly Kat Quinn and Jo Kroger (the other members of our collaboration, the Bangs Collective) to record their beautiful background vocals on my song "Goodbye Cruel Friend" and other songs too. If you have never heard us perform together live, scroll down for a live version of the song to see why that would be very special.
-Stretch Goal #2 - $15,000: This number, which factors in the kickstarter fees, and reward fulfillment, will allow me to get at least one more song on the record. This will make the project a 7 song record.
-Stretch Goal #3 - $18,000+: Anything over $18K will allow for an 8 song record, publicity for the release, which will help me get the music out to new listeners, AND a music video for the song "Spin" which I have been dreaming up for a while. Any number the campaign reaches after this amount will only add to the value of publicity and resources to make the record great, and promote a great record as it deserves to be promoted.
Thank you for joining me in this pursuit. I am honored that you would consider joining my team and helping me achieve my goals. If this is your first time seeing this kickstarter, check out the video and project description below to find out why I am doing what I'm doing here. Thank you for your support!!!
My name is Caitlin Mahoney. I’m a singer/songwriter based in New York City. Welcome to my Kickstarter page!!! I hope to raise at least $10,000 over the next 30 days in order to fund my next record. As featured in the video above along with footage from my tours this year, here is the first song off that record, "Keep Looking Back" - you can get a free download of it when you pledge to my Kickstarter and join #TeamCaitlin!
I recognize that by inviting you to pledge to this campaign, I am not only asking you to invest in a new record, but I am also asking you to invest in me. Caitlin Mahoney. If I'm asking that of you, I should tell you WHY I am doing what I'm doing. Why I make music and why I believe it's worth raising 10,000 dollars to keep doing it.
I have two main reasons why music is what I want to do with my life, and they both stem from what fuels me as a human being. The first is that I want to be the best version of myself, and in the three years I have been in New York pursuing music, I have found the best me I can be, on stage, collaborating with other musicians, writing songs, booking and orchestrating tours, and sharing these songs with people who will enjoy them. It's where I feel the most fulfilled, the most successful. This is where I am growing the most, thus becoming my best self. :)
The second reason I choose to do this is that making music is contributing to a source of joy. When you go to a show, you get to put pause on all of the things stressing you out or pulling you down. When you put music on a running playlist or have a song in your earphones on your work commute, it's a little piece of peace during your day. I want to be part of that. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to make music that people enjoy, and I want to honor it by giving it everything I have!
What's the project?
I had the opportunity to go record a single in Nashville with two wonderful producers, Chris Grainger and Jonathan Trebing. The single that came out of that collaboration -"Keep Looking Back" - was the sound I had been seeking, so we have decided to create a whole record together! I am beyond excited!! I think this record is going to reflect the growth and inspiration I have encountered since I released my last record, West for a While in April 2013. We’ve got the songs picked and the recording dates set for mid October. YAHOOO!
Besides my initial investments in this recording (which is everything I have. haha) the project will cost $10,000, so that is the initial goal I aim to raise with this Kickstarter campaign. This covers recording, mixing, mastering, and production costs for six new songs. When the campaign hits that number, I have stretch goals! The first is a budget to fly my friends Kat Quinn and Jo Kroger (aka the Bangs Collective) to Nashville to sing on the record. See the below live recording of "Goodbye Cruel Friend" to understand why it would be epic to have their voices on my record, particularly for this song:
Other stretch goals include publicity for the release and the tour that goes along with it, and a music video for a song off the record. First, the goal of $10,000 must be reached. It's an all-or-nothing campaign, so if that goal does not get reached, nobody gets charged!
So wait, does #TeamCaitlin have T-shirts?
If you know me personally or you've been to a show, you know that I like to laugh and have a good time, so this Kickstarter campaign will be no different. The rewards for each level are fun, joyful and representative of what I am about. The rewards also include contributions from a lot of the people who inspire me, who are generously sharing their talents. Every pledge receives a digital download of the song “Keep Lookin’ Back” which is the first track off this new record. So in addition to joining #TeamCaitlin, you’ll immediately get a piece of peace for your morning jog or your commute to work.
This record is the next step to becoming the best me I can be! But I can't do it without your help. Check out the rewards, make a pledge, and join #TeamCaitlin today! I’ll see you at the team meeting. There will likely be caramel brownies and T-shirts. But there will definitely be music and fun.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
PS. Without Jessie Tseng and Matt Afflitto, this incredible video would not be. Generosity takes on a whole new meaning thanks to them, and I am so grateful. #TeamGreatlin
Risks and challenges
The challenge in this Kickstarter campaign is that I have literally one month to reach this goal before I go into the studio. I will be three days into the tracking stage when this campaign ends. The faith that I have that this record is worth backing is what compelled me to attempt this, despite the pressure the time constraint imposes on this project. I believe in these songs and I believe in me. My hope is that you believe in me too! I won't let you down!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
