We find ourselves in one of Virginia’s most beautiful areas – the Shenandoah Valley – indeed, where we are located, in Luray, may just be one of the most beautiful areas of the country! There are a few things we could ask for to make it better…and one of them is a craft brewery. So, we took it on ourselves to create one – and now Hawksbill Brewing Company is almost ready to open.
Before we do, we’ve found that we have one or two final construction items that have to be taken care of so that we can welcome guests who will come to taste our creations. This Kickstarter will help us fund an air conditioning upgrade that we need to put into our 1911 building – it was originally built as an ice facility for the railroad and operated as a creamery from the 1930s to the 1960s.
Let’s talk about our goals for the brewery. Because Luray is a small town, and Page County is a small community, we’re going to emphasis local here, and that means agriculture. We’ve adopted the motto “Grown here – brewed here” to describe what we are trying to do, and eventually we hope to have a local ingredient featured in every beer we make!
A last few thoughts about our mission:
- Our Purpose – Hawksbill Brewing Co. is a local Page County business that combines and promotes two of the community’s strengths – agriculture and tourism
- People – Hawksbill Brewing Co. will enlist the help of others committed to the area and the craft, who in essence, share the vision of creating a local enterprise and products
- Products – Hawksbill Brewing Co.’s products must be of the highest quality, because the goal is to sell everything we make, whether ingredients or finished product
- Process – Hawksbill Brewing Co. will seek innovation that stimulates creativity, efficiency, and quality in a craft product – and produce it from Page County Grown and Virginia ingredients
Finally, the pitch…we’re trying to raise $7,500 with this Kickstarter, or about half of the cost of the A/C upgrade. We hope you can help us, and we certainly appreciate your consideration!
Risks and challenges
Hawksbill Brewing Company is almost ready to open - we're planning a spring date, which we will be ready to announce by the end of this campaign.
This is the first time we've reached out to the community for help - even though there have been plenty of offers in the past.
Because we are so far along, we already have addressed most of the risks - we will open, there's no doubt about that.
Our project is simply seeking a little help from our community of friends and fans to take care of this challenge to our progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
