About this project
In “I’m Scared”, Big Brother shares with Little Brother all the frightening things that inhabit the world at night as they try to go to sleep. Small concerns grow into spooky spectres as Big Brother's imagination takes over and their bedroom becomes a playground for monstrous creatures of all types.
Greg “Craola” Simkins is an inspired and ambitious artist with a widely collected and highly coveted body of work. It is his careful weaving of pop culture, the old masters, nature, carnival kitsch, and (most importantly) his warped imagination that makes Greg a sought-after surrealist painter today. (taken from ImScared.com) I’m Scared is a recurring theme in Greg’s art. "I'm Scared" is the age old story of the conflict between the imaginations of little boys and the monsters they battle on a nightly basis. It is also the story of the dynamics of brothers and how each looks at the world through completely different eyeballs. "Just becasue you grew up, doesn't mean they went away." -GS
With the characters already developed, and the script complete, we are gearing up to start production on building puppets and sets. Some of the finest puppet sculptors and fabricators are standing by to begin the process of bringing this project to life.
We'd like to take the time and focus necessary to translate Greg's work into practical stop-motion puppets, to evoke the specific lighting of his paintings, to create the sound design and music to go with these images, and of course to get the feeling just right when Greg's creations finally move.
It's NOT just a movie, it's NOT just a book.. it's a "Möök".
DVD cases have been done before. With this short film, we'd like to have an accompanying book to go with it.
Each "MööK" will have the original script with their accompanying art pieces. Readers will see those pieces as studies and as final rendered images. Each step in how the short film was made will be represented. And to top it off, a DVD copy of the short film will be included inside of a sleeve at the front of the "MööK".
If we make it past the minimum amount we're asking for from Kickstarter, we have several ideas for how to take this short film further, creating more complex puppets with increased functionality, having a fund to draw from for film festival submissions, and other fun opportunities.
Beyond this film, we'd like to create a larger series of short films, incorporating other contemporary artists' visions.
C4toons is a collaborative collective of artists devoted to bringing art to life in new and imaginative ways. From pop, surreal, abstract, and street to stop-motion animation and film, C4toon reveals the unexpected side of art.
We are Simkins fans who want to bring Greg’s art to life with stop motion animation. If this Kickstarter is a success, we hope to collaborate with other forward-thinking artists to evolve their creative ideas to the next level.

Additionally we will be using "Backerkit" You will be able to make your selections for rewards once the Kickstarter has concluded through Backer Kit. You also will be able to include add-ons at that time. In combination with the Kickstarter survey, Backer Kit will help us better track our orders and ultimately give you a smoother experience with us. It will also help you notify us of any address changes you may have. We have been emailing them and other Kickstarter project creators that have used Backer Kit and feel like it will be beneficial for you and for us.
To kick off the series, we've been lucky enough to team up with one of the most talented and generous artists in this new movement of pop surrealism and new brow art. It's very much because of his kind donations towards this project that we can put together this campaign to make the film.
REWARDS AND GOODIES:
Risks and challenges
Greg's artwork has a very specific look and feel to it. In trying to animate Greg's world, we don't want to cut corners. We want to get it right. We want to give each aspect of the stop-motion process the attention it deserves so that we can be true to the detailed world that Greg's art inhabits.
On top of this, we're also trying something new with how we present the movie. Our "Möök" (DVD movie and art book combo) is an idea we're really excited about and we'd like to knock your socks off with it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
