A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
We've created an innovative cooling device that will help relieve your painful migraine symptoms. Our device uses compact thermoelectric cooling technology to help deliver a hyper-cooling sensation at the touch of a button.
No freezer. No Mess. Take prolivio with you.
Icepacks just don't cut it. They're messy, need to be supported, and you need a refrigerator or freezer nearby. Oh, also, they're not very comfortable. In our research, most icepack users found that they get too cold and they need to move it around to avoid further pain.
So how does it work? Magic?
Nope, science. Our Prolivio device uses technology that has been utilized in portable coolers and CPU cooling. We have decided to use it in a targeted application for migraine sufferers.
We create a temperature differential, so those plates cool rapidly. The temperature drops from ambient to a cooled state of around 50 degrees, far colder than skin temperature. We aimed for this temperature because it isn't too cold.
According to the Migraine Research Foundation, the number one symptom of migraines is throbbing head pain. 90% of sufferers are unable to work or do nearly anything during a migraine. This pain is caused by vasodilation, or dilation of the blood vessels. This expansion of blood vessels puts pressure on nearby nerves, which causes the migraine sufferer to feel intense pain in their forehead, eyes, temples, or neck.
Cooling therapy is the #1 response to this symptom. It helps contract blood vessels back to normal size, reversing vasodilation and providing temporary relief from the blinding pain.
Who is this for?
This idea was developed BY migraine sufferers FOR migraine sufferers. We know what you're going through and that's why we want to help! One of our founders, Ben Zombek, saw his own mother leave his wedding because of a debilitating migraine. She had no immediate source of relief and missed out on a key event in Ben's life. Migraine sufferers experience moments like this every day.
We think we can change these numbers by helping sufferers to push through their migraines. Having a device with you at all times can decrease anxiety about a migraine in and of itself.
What if I don't get migraines?
That's actually a great thing, we would never wish them upon you! Luckily, Prolivio still works if you don't. Whether you're out on a hot day doing yard work, or you experience hot flashes, the Prolivio headband is for anyone who needs to keep cool. We are working on other future devices that will work for other more specific applications. The Prolivio headband is great for migraines, headaches, fevers, hot days, hangovers, hot flashes, and concussions.
Oh yeah, we want to build an app!
Along with our innovative headband, we are planning to build an app that will better enable users to track and predict their migraines. Our first iteration will work with the headband to adjust temperature through low-power Bluetooth. We will build the rest of the features in the future. Existing apps are too busy, difficult to use, or just simply aren't helpful. We're working on an app that's as simple to use as possible and provides the most relevant information to each sufferer.
We started with a sketch on a napkin. The concept started out much simpler than what we have now, but wasn't nearly as effective. Over the past few months, we've worked on designing usable prototypes to test effectiveness and comfort. We had three major prototype generations which you can see here:
We tested the early prototypes out as we built them, and we got a lot of reactions like these:
The Final Prototype
Simple. Comfortable. Sleek.
Our final prototype sits on your forehead, no hands needed. It's lightweight at around 7.5 ounces, so you might forget it's even there! The integrated controls allow you to easily adjust the level of cooling between 4 presets. Integrated Bluetooth and a rechargeable battery allow you use prolivio on the go for up to 1.5 hours straight and control your cooling with your phone or watch.
What do I get for my money?
We have many different reward levels so you can grab a prolivio band for yourself, your family or spouse, or a pack for your small business. Check out the rewards below:
Where is my money going?
We're a team of innovative industrial designers, engineers, and medical professionals.
Thanks for checking out our project and for all the support we've received so far!
We have taken a safe approach by setting our timeline, and we will do our best to ensure that every backer gets their rewards as soon as possible. After the campaign ends, we will be posting our updates frequently, so every backer is up to date about the production and shipping process. Our experience in merchandising, design, technology, logistics, and marketing has given us a leg up in the competition. We are prepared and fully equipped to handle any risks or challenges we could possibly face, so rest at ease and pledge with confidence!
