Each country was carefully considered and analysed based on the ability to project airpower in the year 2018. The top-4 countries are represented by the court cards and ace across the suits. The back of each card is represented by one of the most proliferated western aircraft currently still in-service today by many countries, the F-16 Fighting Falcon by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin).
The remaining 36 countries each have one combat aircraft selected, this was based on the number in-service but also technology advantages and the ability to inflict losses to an adversary during an air campaign and prolonged conflict.
Analysis insight (Free PDF)
A downloadable document is available that provides more details on how and why each country was selected. This was my working document as I analysed each country and aircraft.
The Joker cards are a look at where we've come from and what the future may hold for combat jet aircraft. The past is represented by the Messerschmitt Me 262 which was the first operational jet-powered aircraft used by the Germans in WWII. The future is represented by the prototype X-47B and a nod to the future that is being developed as we speak and may well include many more un-manned aircraft.
While the cards themselves will be printed by Noir Arts (NPCC) in Ukraine, and the booklets in Australia. All backers will have their orders fulfilled and carefully shipped by Gambler's Warehouse, in Texas USA.
