Dancing People Company is Ashland, Oregon's cherished dance company. We're the only professional dance group in all of Southern Oregon, so the honor and responsibility of providing first rate dance performances all year long for our community falls to us. By far, our favorite show of the season is Dance In The Park.
Each year (this year on July 28 and 29) DPC performs at the bandshell in beautiful Lithia Park, presenting evocative, virtuosic, entertaining dance absolutely free to 800 people.
Dance in Lithia Park is a bit of a tradition, begun over 20 years ago by the now defunct Ballet Rogue. If you've lived in Ashland for a long time, you may have happy memories of attending these shows as a child.
Dancing People Company is reinventing this tradition with their five professional dancers and a compelling, current, beautiful and fun repertoire that will continue to inspire generations of Ashland residents and tourists alike.
Imagine, lounging on a blanket, with picnic fare, Ashland Creek burbling in the background, children trying out their own dance moves on the lawn, the heat of the summer sun fading to a glorious evening - and you watching a dance performance as good as anything you'd find in a large metropolitan area. What a rare find in a small town!
Of course, good art doesn't spring out of nowhere, which is why we need your help. Our shoestring budget includes money to rent the bandshell, pay technical staff, advertise the performances so lots of people come! and pay a stipend to the magnificent DPC dancers. If you think about it, it's amazing what we'll accomplish with so little.
Keep in mind that DPC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your contribution to Dance In The Park will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. It's sounding better all the time, isn't it? Please invest now, for a great performance this summer!
