What is The Lost Dungeons of Xon?
The Lost Dungeons of Xon features full support for three popular roleplaying systems:
- 5th Edition
- Old School 1st Edition
Each system will be supported with its own PDF, which will include both system-specific stats as well as guidelines in the text. For example, only the 5th Edition PDF will reference rules such as Advantage, while the Old School version will be geared more toward combat and non-skill-based problem-solving.
In what format will the module be available?
Because our module is designed specifically to leverage the capabilities of e-publishing, it will only be available in interactive PDF format. This PDF will have many advanced features, including:
- Landscape format for optimized use on laptops and tablets
- Easy navigation to "pop-up" stat blocks by clicking on an NPC or monster’s name
- Quick links from the dungeon map to room and encounter descriptions
- Hyperlinks to external spell and monster stats
- Professionally-narrated embedded audio
- Password-unlockable player content
- All of the dungeons presented in the series are what we call pre-build friendly; the heroes will know the layout of the dungeon in advance. But even with some of Xon's secrets at their disposal, new surprises await them. For the dungeon master, this allows you to present the layout of the dungeon to the players right from the start of the session without spoiling the module.
- The Lost Dungeons are designed specifically to make use of two very successful Kickstarter campaigns: Dwarven Forge's Game Tiles and Reaper's Bones Miniatures. If you own either or both of these accessories, the module provides you with specific guidelines on which tiles and/or miniatures to use, including video tutorials showing you precisely how to set up the dungeon. If you don't own them, the PDF will also include printable maps and character stand-ups.
- Instead of commissioning traditional fantasy artwork, our modules feature high-resolution photography of professionally-painted miniatures and three-dimensional dungeons for a unique look and feel.
What do I get for my pledge?
This Kickstarter is for “The Crucible”, the first module in what we plan to be an extended series of modules. The Crucible is a 25-page standalone module for 4 to 6 first-level characters, designed to be run during a single 3- to 4-hour game session.
For as little as $1, you’ll receive the entire Crucible module in the supported game system of your choice, along with a companion Digital Player’s Guide that includes background information, maps and clues for the players.
If you pledge at the $5 Adventurer level, you’ll also receive extended character write-ups for the more prominent NPC’s in the game, with enough information and stats to use them in other games if you desire.
At the $10 Storyteller of Valoria level, you'll get everything from the Adventurer level plus an additional full-length module set in Dwarven Forge's original setting, the City of Valoria.
* BEST DEAL * At the $20 Completionist level, you will also receive a special side quest "Moving Dungeon" module exclusive to this Kickstarter, as well as PDFs in all three formats. You'll also get every unlocked stretch goal and add-on, including the Valoria module, at no extra cost! That's an over $50 retail value for a pledge of just $20. We've also got the $30 Citizen of Therigard pledge level that lets you name an NPC (in addition to everything in the Completionist level) and the ultimate pledge of $100, which gets you entrance into the Burning Yeti Inner Circle, where you can get directly involved with the development and testing of our content.

Unless noted otheriwse, unlocked stretch goals will be available to anyone who backs at the $5 level or higher.
UNLOCKED! The Barroom Brawl supplement will be free to all Adventurer-level backers or higher. It will offer a plethora of options (yes, we said plethora) to flesh out and expand an optional encounter in The Crucible, or it can be used separately from the module, to add spice to any game.
UNLOCKED! All backers at the Adventurer-level and higher will receive Pre-generated player characters to go with the supported system of your choice. These PCs will be a fully-fleshed out and diverse crew of characters, ready to drop into The Lost Dungeons of Xon or any other game.
UNLOCKED! The Wilds of Therigard will detail the region around the town and the dungeon where the module takes place. It will also include a bonus cave encounter that can be constructed using Dwarven Forge's Caverns tiles, or printed using our high-rez printer-friendly map.
UNLOCKED! We're going to make special jpg and png versions of our maps and NPCs designed specifically for use with virtual tabletop programs like Roll20. These files will be available on our website, free to ALL backers.
UNLOCKED! FREE to all backers at the Adventurer level or higher! We'll make a special prequel adventure designed specifically to be run as a prelude to The Crucible. How does the road to the hero's journey begin? Now you'll get your chance to find out...
UNLOCKED! We'll expand both the Digital Player's Guide and the Shifting Dungeon with additional content, including "The Broken Door" encounter. (The Shifting Dungeon is exclusive to Completionist-level backers only.)
UNLOCKED! The Adventurer's Guide to Therigard will fully detail the town itself, including a bevy of additional NPC's. This add-on will be available to all Adventurer-level backers for an additional $5, or FREE to all Completionist-level backers.
And as a special bonus... We'll give Therigard the full three-dimensional treatment, building out the town using pieces from Dwarven Forge's City Builder tiles.
UNLOCKED! We're developing a web-based, interactive version of The Crucible that lets you go through the entire module from start to finish. You'll face many of the same decisions you'll ultimately be presenting to your players. What better way to prepare for a module than to have a chance to play it yourself?
UNLOCKED! We'll add more professional audio to the module in the form of embedded sound effects and ambient backgrounds and music. This upgrade will be FREE to all backers!
UNLOCKED! Now that we've reached 500 backers, we'll give our Adventurer's Guide to Therigard add-on the full City Builder treatment, including photos of the constructed town and instructional videos on how to put together each of the buildings in the town using City Builder pieces.
UNLOCKED! Grubfinkel's Map Guide, a series of encounter ideas for use in any campaign setting (system neutral). These assorted underground locales will be built out with Dwarven Forge tiles (but also useable without them). Each map will have notes from the veteran spelunker, Grubfinkel, to give you ideas to build out a full encounter. And for every additional 50 backers we get, from now through the end of the campaign, we'll add another encounter idea!
UNLOCKED! We're pleased to announce that we will be working in conjunction with the folks over at Dwarven Forge to develop a special module set in their original setting, the City of Valoria. This module will be of a similar scope and length to the main module in our campaign, and in addition to all our interactive bells and whistles, it will feature tiles from Dwarven Forge's City Builder campaign. Like The Crucible, this module will be available for 1st Edition, 5th Edition and Pathfinder.
UNLOCKED! Now that we've reached the big $10k, we'll add quality fantasy artwork to supplement our photography.
UNLOCKED! We're going to add more professionally narrated audio to The Crucible and to our interactive walkthroughs. More room descriptions, more dialogue, more tone-setting awesomeness.
UNLOCKED! We'll enhance the Interactive GM Walkthrough with enough features to turn it into a "Playthrough." We'll add more character class options and stats. And while the mechanics won't be system specific, there will be d20-based skill checks and combat rolls. All of these enhancements will improve the interactive experience and increase re-playability.
UNLOCKED! We'll build the Therigard Almanac, an interactive online repository of all the people, places and things you might run across in The Lost Dungeons modules and all companion setting materials. This will be a wiki-style setup that will be a handy reference for GM's, and players will also be able to use it keep track of their own notes and encounters.
What is Burning Yeti Studios?
Burning Yeti Studios is a group of highly experienced gamers and creative professionals with a proven record in the gaming and publishing industries.
- Jeff Hannes previously worked as Senior Editor for InQuest Gamer magazine and has written material for Iron Crown Enterprises and Wizards of the Coast.
- Michael Searle is Burning Yeti's graphic designer. He was Executive Editor of InQuest Gamer and has written over 50 published strategy guides for video games.
- Dave Breen is the owner of GameKnight Products, Inc. and has launched three successful Kickstarter campaigns selling custom chips designed specifically for gamers.
- Joel Lytle is a former owner of the All About Games! retail store.
No Surprises Section
While we will endeavor to ensure that all the features of our interactive PDFs work on as many platforms as possible, it’s still a relatively recent technology. We do extensive testing, but we can’t always account for certain versions of software and operating systems. To fully utilize the features of the PDFs, you may have to download a new version of Adobe Reader to your laptop, desktop or tablet, or install the latest system updates for your device.
Due to the interactive nature of the PDF, the GM should plan to have a computer or tablet on hand to run the module. If the players have technology as well, their experience can be enhanced by using the Digital Player's Guides, but they are not required. All the information in the player's guides will also be available as printable content.
Also, note that embedded audio will not work on most tablet PDF Readers, but the PDF will contain clickable links to play the audio off of our website, and all narration audio files will be available as mp3 downloads.
Risks and challenges
As with any creative endeavor, the biggest challenge will be delivering the items on time. Fortunately, we’ve already put a great deal of effort into "The Crucible", and the module itself is nearly complete.
The remaining materials (including bonus materials and stretch goals) will need to be completed, designed and, most importantly, play-tested. While we’ve allotted an appropriate amount of time for play-testing in our production schedule, there is always the possibility that player feedback could necessitate changes.
