the fudge is Burly Bakers?
Glad you asked. I’m Bill Armstrong, the founder and owner of Burly Bakers—a mail order dessert company I started in 2013.
I love dessert, always have. So, after years of people begging me to bring another of my delicious pies, cakes and various other sweet treats to their next get together, I finally decided to give it a go.
Burly Bakers burst onto the Atlanta bakery scene in early 2013 with a simple motto at the heart of everything we do: “If you’re gonna be bad, it better be good.”
Well, what do y’all make?
We’re known for our ridiculously indulgent brownies, bars, cookies, shortbread, pies, cakes, and pralines. And everything is baked fresh with premium ingredients—the best chocolate, butter, sugar, vanilla, fruits and nuts available. We never use artificial preservatives or stabilizers, and we bake everything fresh to order.
And where does it all happen?
Burly Bakers currently operates from a small corner of a commercial kitchen located in the West Midtown area of Atlanta, Georgia. This space has helped us produce some amazing treats, but we share the space with a large caterer and it's been difficult to handle our busier periods and also stay out of the way. Limited storage and the lack of a walk-in space for our customers are also big issues. So, we're ready to move into our very own permanent home.
Good to know. So what's the plan going forward?
We are actively seeking the right and perfect space in the Grant Park, East Atlanta, Reynoldstown, Inman Park, Poncey Highlands, Little 5 Points, Candler Park, Kirkwood, Cabbagetown, and Decatur areas. Once we sign the lease, we'll purchase equipment and build out as necessary, to include a walk-in space for our customers.
got & what we need
First, the stuff we're lucky to have already:
• A shared kitchen space with necessary business licenses and permits
• A lot of baking equipment and supplies.
• A sweet mission
• A loyal customer base (that’s you!)
• A kick-ass e-commerce site
we'll do with the money:
• Locate and lease a suitable space.
• Purchase equipment - including commercial convection ovens, commercial mixer, refrigeration, racks and tables, smallwares, and packing/shipping equipment.
• Purchase supplies and improved packaging.
• Hire an assistant
And here's the
kicker: We’re going to get all of this done before the 2014 holiday season
The support, love, and encouragement we've received in our first year of business has been AMAZING. We've got a lot of loyal customers and great word of mouth. I know that with this kind of support we will reach our goal.
How you can help
We need sponsors! We've worked hard to create some special awards for various levels of sponsorship, including Burly Bakers T-shirts and aprons, a 2015 Burly Bakers calendar, and (of course) our delicious baked goods.
Please pledge an amount and award level that works best for you. We have just 30 days to raise the full $25,000.
