Miss Mina Murray's Little Book of Burlesque Costuming
Vol. 1, The Foundations. A how-to book of burlesque costuming covering all your essential undergarments.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, October 24 2018 1:00 AM UTC +00:00.
It's time for a companion to Miss Mina's Little Book of Better Burlesque! I've been making costumes for *mumble* years and they are my favorite part of burlesque. So many people have asked that my next book be about costuming – and who am I to say no to my Constant Readers?
I'm pleased to present the second volume of what I hope will be a long series: Miss MIna Murray's Little Book of Burlesque Costuming: The Foundations. I've distilled years of experience (and past mistakes) into these chapters so you can go forth and make your own beautiful and unique creations. In this book I explain how I make pasties, g-strings, bras, and panties, and if we reach a stretch goal, I'll include a chapter on how to make some charming little lingerie bags.
This campaign was created to raise funds for the publication by pre-selling copies of the book. I'm trying to keep costs low and still have a quality book. Our plan is for a small volume, 4 inches by 6, just like my first book, with easy-to-follow instructions for making your own costume pieces, clearly illustrated by local artist Stacey B. Rizoli (aka Devastasia).
UPDATE: I am so excited to announce that Irena Canova of Glorious Pasties will be adding a little sparkle to this book by writing the foreword!
The plan is to have copies of the book at BurlyCon in mid-November, where I'm teaching a class on caring for your costumes and the class that became the chapter on G-strings. If we can, we hope to have all the reward books shipped out to backers before then. If not, we'll get them out as soon as we get home, probably before December, but we've put a December ship date on our rewards just in case.
MADE IT! --> If we reach our goal, $500, we'll publish the book as planned with instructions for 5 costume items, about 100 pages, all in black and white. <-- MADE IT!
MADE IT!-->At $750, I can afford to add some more pages to the book, giving you a bonus project -- how to make handy cloth bags to store and transport your beautiful creations. <-- MADE IT!
MADE IT!-->If we raise $1000, we'll add in some lovely color photographs of actual garments here and there. <-- MADE IT!
At $1,250, we'll make charming and practical bookmarks to be included with every book.
Risks and challenges
The text is written, the illustrations are completed, the layout is in process, and we've chosen a publisher. The only real challenge to publishing the book is to have enough pre-sales that I can cover some of the publishing costs. One way or another, this book is going to happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
